The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Library seeks a dynamic candidate for the 18-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment of Project Archivist beginning August 1, 2024 and ending January 31, 2026. This is a great opportunity for an early career professional interested in working in a collaborative environment that stresses a standards-based approach to curation.
The Project Archivist position is generously funded by the National Historical Publications & Records Commission (NHPRC) to complete “One of the Black Legislators”: Providing Access to the Tommie F. Brown Papers (RH-103542-23). The project supports processing and description of 125 linear feet of archival material amassed by Tommie F. Brown (1934- ), an accomplished civic leader, educator, researcher, and state legislator whose career is defined by historic firsts, including serving from 1992-2012 as the first Black woman to represent the 28th District in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
About the Library
The Library conscientiously invests in user-centered services, collections, and technologies to serve a broad diversity of disciplines through collaboration, transparency, and respect. The Library supports twenty-six faculty librarians and eighteen staff members, operates on an annual budget of over four million dollars, and possesses collection holdings of more than 500,000 volumes, over 2,500 active journal subscriptions, 150 databases, and more than 28,000 accessible online journals. The Library provides an information commons with 100 public computers, thirty-eight group study rooms, a media studio, three library instruction classrooms, a writing center, an archival repository, a cafe, and a 24-hour study space in a five-story 180,000-square-foot facility constructed in 2015.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Collections Services in close consultation with the Director of Special Collections and Project Director, the Project Archivist processes and describes the Tommie F. Brown papers. Specific duties of the Project Archivist include:

Salary
The minimum annual salary is $53,000, commensurate with experience.
