Assistant/Associate Vice Provost for Experiential Learning and Outreach in Undergraduate Education

Position Summary

The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (OVPUE) is seeking an Associate/Assistant Vice Provost to fullfill the goals in the IUB 2030 Strategic Plan. This position will coordinate, expand, and track the work being done by the 2030 Sub-Group on Experiential Education. The position will work with existing internal programs and extend offerings through outreach to companies/agencies that could be part of the experiential learning activities for undergraduate students. This position will supervise the offices associated with experiential learning and career development. These include but are not limited to undergraduate research, service/community learning, and programmatic areas that will emerge from the strategic plan workgroups (first-year seminar and experiential learning).

The following skills and experiences are desired for the position:

  • Strong organizational skills in order to lead campus-wide projects and create processes to carry out new initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing full-time faculty and staff that work on projects/initiatives.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with others and among multiple constituents.
  • Knowledge of the shared governance process for policy making and revisions.
  • Strong writing skills to move forward campus-wide initiatives with clear objectives and processes.
  • Understanding of how experiential learning practices influence student success in higher education.

Additional Criteria:

  • Experience with programs that support experiential learning opportunities such as undergraduate research, internships, service learning, or co-curricular opportunities.
  • Ability to work with companies, governmental and non-profit agencies to create experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Willingness to work with multiple offices within the university to create, track, and communicate experiential learning opportunities.

Selection Process:

The title will be based on academic tenure and work experience of the candidate. Those seeking Associate Vice Provost title would need to be tenured faculty. This search seeks candidates within and outside IU Bloomington. Candidates should provide a cover letter that highlights how they would meet the criteria specified and goals if they were in the position, as well as a C.V. and names of three references.
