The opportunity

Due to continued expansion, a new leadership opportunity has arisen in our Discovery Biology Group within the New Projects Team, focused on developing cutting edge, best-in-class therapeutic antibodies.

As a capable and experienced manager, you will be leading a team who are progressing immunology and neuroscience projects from concept to target validation. You will be planning, executing and overseeing in-house and contract research. Additionally, you will be involved in strategy development, target assessment and project planning.

How you’ll spend your day

  • Day to day leadership, management and mentoring of staff. Your management experience, expertise in experimental design and data analysis and interpretation skills will be critical in managing laboratory activities within agreed timelines, fostering career development, measuring performance and providing effective feedback. This will include ensuring timely experimental write up of you own and you team’s experimental work.
  • Investigation of potential new targets. You will use your expertise in target biology and literature evaluation to plan and execute new target validation work that provides clear indicators towards product efficacy and differentiation. This will require a good understanding of in vivo study design and efficacy testing.
  • Participation in company-wide strategy development. The Discovery Biology group is involved in the ongoing development of R&D strategy. This will include working with Commercial and Executive teams on the strategy, guiding indications and new targets and assessment of business development opportunities. (Ability to visualize the competitive landscape now and in the future and drive product differentiation and competitive positioning.)
  • Effective collaboration with key stakeholders. You will use your ability to analyse and interpret data to provide recommendations to key stakeholders and to inform on new target projects through clear and concise oral and written communication. 
  • Seamless project transition. You will work closely with local and international teams to support smooth transition of projects across their developmental stages.

  • Continuous improvement. You will use your interest in, and knowledge of, new methods and technologies to leverage ongoing upgrade and improvement of our platforms and processes.

Your experience and qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent with extensive experience (10+ years) in life sciences (immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, pharmacology etc) or equivalent relevant experience 
  • 5+ years’ experience in direct line management of scientists 
  • Proven track record of adopting new technologies or experimentation – promotes continuous improvement 
  • Industry experience highly favoured 
  • Knowledge/experience in any aspect of neuroscience highly regarded 
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong documentation skills, a can-do attitude and an ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) is required
