FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college located in downtown Brooklyn offering 58 associate and bachelor’s degrees, invites applications for a lecturer position in the Department of Hospitality Management, to begin fall 2024.

The Department of Hospitality Management is recognized internationally as the premier hospitality management program of the City University of New York. The department is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) and offers both associate and bachelor’s degrees.

The Lecturer should have a history of professional pastry arts experience in fine dining restaurants, hotels, catering facilities, and or bakeries. Candidates should have skills in classical and modern baking, basic and advanced bread baking, and viennoiserie, as well as kitchen operations management. In addition to teaching, this position offers an opportunity to develop curriculum and pedagogy, engage with students, and contribute to the vitality of a dynamic and highly regarded department, with strong links to industry, the College and the University.

This is a full-time position that leads to a certificate of continuous employment. The faculty member is expected to be committed to excellence in teaching, and to sustained service to the Hospitality Management Department, the School of Professional Studies, the College, and the University, in service of their respective missions.

The Lecturer's responsibilities include:

  • Teaching courses in the diverse offerings of the Department of Hospitality Management, including, but not limited to, the required and elective courses in pastry arts and food and beverage operations.
  • Working collaboratively on departmental efforts and playing an active role in the creation, development, and assessment of new curricula and pedagogy, as well as in the reaccreditation process for the baccalaureate program.
  • Management of kitchen laboratory operations and coordination with college lab technicians.
  • Active participation in department/college/university-wide initiatives.
  • Advising and mentoring students on academic and career related topics.
  • Ongoing participation in professional development activities.

The ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and/or weekends may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Current ServSafe® certification or NYC Department of Health Food Handler certification is also required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree and prior teaching experience at the college level is strongly preferred.

A minimum of ten years of employment in pastry arts and kitchen management is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION

$69,983 – $88,998. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
