The West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Cancer Institute are seeking applications for an Assistant/Associate/Professor, non-tenured, position in Cancer Prevention and Control. We seek a colleague who will build a program of independent research in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment located in a major academic cancer center. This opportunity offers the potential for creation of highly impactful research and programs in the areas of cancer prevention and control and rural health. The ideal candidate will be able to work with individuals across a variety of disciplines and be capable of working with existing research staff to grow analytic capacities and practices across existing portfolios of work. The successful candidate would ideally have demonstrated success in research collaboration on grant-funded projects. Candidates with experience working in a collaborative, biomedical research setting, and record of extramural grant support are highly preferred. Candidates with real-world experiences in applying data science and statistical methods, who also have advanced analytics training and/or experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities will include contributing to ongoing research and capacity-building projects, developing or continuing a fundable research program, and participating in service activities within the Center, the School, the institution, and professional-based communities as appropriate. This faculty member will also support the data collection, tracking, evaluation, and reporting necessary for the Cancer Institute to achieve eligibility to apply for NCI cancer center designation.

The faculty member’s academic appointment will reside in the newly established Department of Cancer Prevention and Control. This position will report to Stephenie Kennedy-Rea, EdD, Chair of the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control.

Qualifications

Applicant must have:

  • A relevant doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, MD, DrPH
  • Experience in tracking and evaluation
  • Track record of independent, peer-reviewed extramural grant funding 
  • Advanced expertise in research design and methodology
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications 
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Evidence of mentoring experience 

Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting, tracking, and evaluating data necessary for applying for NCI designation
  • Writing reports, including complex data visualization components 
  • Conducting research and/or leading research teams (at least 50% of time)
  • Collaborating and mentoring residents, students, staff on cancer prevention and control projects including manuscript development, data analysis, IRB submissions, and study design
  • Writing and collaborating on grants to support 50% of the position
  • Coordinating research projects
  • Preparing manuscripts
  • Planning and assisting outcome studies
  • Coordinating collaborations between the WV Clinical and Translations Science Institute (CTSI), Cancer Institute, and School of Public Health
