NATURE & SCOPE 

The mission of this role is to deliver data-driven actionable insights from advanced analytics that create high impact patient value 

This role leads G2M or function- focused projects within the Global Advanced Analytics Engine - the centre of excellence and delivery for strategic, tactical, and operational guidance, expertise, and execution capacity, providing knowledge and actionable insights to drive objective, evidence-based decision-making leveraging data and advanced analytics. 

The Global Advanced Analytics Data Scientist Lead will be responsible for making exceptional business impact with the use of secondary data and insights development through advanced analytics methods, enabling an increased use of data and, where applicable, reducing the necessity for building primary data. The incumbent will be responsible for project managing development and implementation of advanced analytics/AI to ensure successful delivery. You will also be in charge of the ongoing operations of advanced analytics solutions to ensure Advanced Analytics models continue to work and scale with additional demand and applications. You will serve as the subject matter expert for Advanced Analytics/AI capabilities in support of business needs.

As a Data Scientist Lead you will utilize current and new data sources that will allow integrating primary market research results with data analytics and other information to derive key insights and conclusions advancing the company vision to proactive predictive analytics, opportunities identification and capability development to enable future organizational decisions and successful launches.

In your role you:

  • Leverage Advance Analytics/AI to generate routine and ad hoc actionable insights with maximal impact
  • Have a deep understanding of the business and the associated business needs, and be able to understand problems and translate them into analytical solutions and insights next
  • Keep up-to-date on the leading edge data mining and machine learning and leverage them for the insights generation process
  • Deliver effective recommendations of findings through effective visual displays of quantitative and qualitative information
  • Coordinate with business and IT partners to operationalize successful analytical experiments into production
  • Ideate, shape, and manage assigned portfolio of advanced analytics projects
  • Serve as Subject matter expert (SME) within the business on advanced analytics 
  • Have a high proficiency in syndicated and custom pharmaceutical data sources, analytic applications and methodologies, and advanced data science is required
  • Evolve the adoption and usage of (secondary) data and advanced analytics by demonstrating its impact and evolve UCB to become a reference in the industry 
  • Drive deep partnership with the Hub insights team and other “fellow” Engines and insights generating functions (e.g. regional analytics teams) allowing for a joined delivery of cross-functional, deep impactful insights 
  • Be a champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture
  • You will support GTM functions (Missions and Local / Regional business). Priority on Japan market. )

ORGANISATION 

Part of the new Global Integrated Insights and Analytics team with local I2I and business team relationships across geographies

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Analytics Leadership. Provide clear expertise for opportunities to leverage advanced analytics, especially where they are advantageous to reducing the need for primary data or have high marginal impact
  • Deliver the most impactful data and analytics projects that: 1) address the most compelling business questions, and/or 2) identify new opportunities for patients and UCB through effective visual displays of quantitative and qualitative information
  • Team Leadership. Serve as a mentor and guide to data scientists and translators in demonstrating the application of cutting edge analytics, clear communication and presentation of insights and practical/pragmatic implementation of key recommendations 
  • Partnership and Collaboration. Be the key strategic partner for the G2M or functional stakeholders and co-create plans and priorities for data and advanced analytics with them together with the GTM Hub Leads for GTM stakeholders. Ensure tight relationships and collaboration with local (Japan) business stakeholders, IT, Data Office, and other Analytics teams using relevant data sources.
  • Drive the execution of regional and local data-driven insights research and data analytics plans and priorities. 

On a day-to-day basis, this individual should: 

  • Collaborate with the relevant G2M TA Hubs and local / regional business stakeholders
  • Deliver insights—through data and analytics—that have significant impact on patients’ lives and create value for both patients and UCB.
  • Foster a strong data science community with significant business acumen and communication skills across Hubs and Engine
  • Supervise the conduct of advanced analytics studies in a collaborative manner ensuring that the study methodology is appropriate to deliver reliable results.
  • Establish close relationships with the global data office and IT to align on priorities and stimulate collaboration
  • Improve the team’s partnership with, and impact on, key internal (UCB) and external stakeholders within the specific area of focus by:
  • developing and executing a communication and collaboration plan with key UCB stakeholders. 
  • increasing her/his knowledge and the Advanced analytics team’s knowledge of the business by ensuring that she/he and each team member has direct interaction with patients and/or other external stakeholders.
  • Attract, retain, motivate, and develop key talent for the advanced analytics team; coach and develop team members.

JOB PROFILE

Education 

  • Master/Doctor’s degree in quantitative area is preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years experience applying predictive modeling techniques such as ML, decision trees, ensemble learning, neural networks etc, and data transformation such as text mining, fuzzy matching, etc., is required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience developing program/project plans and leading programs/projects from initiation to implementation is required. Experiences in Pharma or Biotech industries are preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience with programming and application development using Python or R is preferred
  • Preferred to have experiences working with NLP models to analyse unstructured data such as clinician notes.
  • Experiences in Japan market is required; experiences of regional/global roles or projects are preferred.
  • Having people management experiences is preferred.

Profile:

  • Expertise in analyzing a range of large, secondary transactional databases, unstructured data or other computationally difficult challenges
  • Mastering project management skills is a must.

  • Possess an 80/20 mindset to push for fast model iterations
  • You must also be able to interpret model results and identify potential model errors (e.g., overfitting, model bias, correlation vs causation)
  • You have an agile mindset and love to test-and-learn
  • You are a crisp communicator and can tailor your communication style to technical and non-technical audiences alike. This means you can build a storyline to communicate the analyses to business leaders of various backgrounds and expertise
  • You have an intrapreneurial spirit and can create creative solutions to technical and organizational roadblocks that can immerge 
  • You are driven by impact
