Head of External Affairs and Media Relations, Asia, Marsh McLennan

What can you expect?

  • This is an exciting opportunity to drive the strategy and execution of media and public relations activity for Marsh McLennan’s Asia region.
  • Reporting to the Marsh McLennan International Media Relations and External Affairs Leader, you will play a key role in elevating public awareness of Marsh McLennan and its four businesses – Marsh, Mercer, Oliver Wyman and Guy Carpenter, ensuring favourable brand association in line with regional and global brand strategy.

We will count on you to:

  • Develop and execute Marsh McLennan’s business-specific, regional external affairs and media relations strategy in Asia, including managing Public Relations (PR) agencies.
  • Work closely with senior management, including regional and business division leadership, to promote business objectives through proactive media and external affairs strategies, ensuring alignment between the regional business priorities and regional marketing priorities.
  • Develop relationships with key Tier 1, broadcast, trade and general business media journalists in the region.
  • Build strong internal networks, collaborate with Asia country teams on key issues across the firm, including building an effective internal funnel for communications content.
  • Work with the global external affairs and media relations team, ensuring the implementation of global standards and processes to drive best practice and a consistent messaging for external communications globally.
  • Provide crisis and issues management advice to senior colleagues regionally and globally in partnership with Regional Marketing and Communications Leader.
  • Drive Asia-wide strategy to elevate the company’s voice on key topics and develop a key bench of colleagues who can speak to issues across the enterprise and, in partnership with Regional Marketing and Communications Leader, ensure strong alignment to regional/country business and marketing priorities.
  • Ensure alignment of media relations activities with key regional and country sales and marketing campaigns.
  • Vet external speaking engagement opportunities, in line with the firm’s media relations policy.
  • Leverage all forms of media (print, television, digital, events, etc.) to drive value to the Marsh McLennan’s businesses and brand.

What you need to have:

  • At least 10 to12 years of experience required, ideally within the professional or financial services industry. Experience of running Asia-wide PR operations is a plus.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness of media/public relations campaigns by producing measurable growth in coverage among key outlets (Tier 1, broadcast and trade press).
  • Provide coaching to country leaders to maximize the opportunities to build strong media and industry relationships.
  • Working within a matrix structure, supporting other team members to develop their capabilities so that they can contribute to improved coverage across the region.
  • Strong capability to write commercial, media-ready work product that is both highly accurate and professionally presented.
  • Highly effective at framing and positioning a particular message to a given audience in a compelling, appropriate format.
  • Skilled in taking complex ideas and communicating them in a way that is relevant and easily digestible.
  • Ability to create deep working relationships across business, functional, and line of business boundaries.
