As an Automation Engineer II at Viome Life Sciences, located in Bothell, you will play a vital role in our automation department, contributing to the development and optimization of automated processes that are essential to our operations.

Responsibilities

  • Program, optimize, verify, and implement new methods on robotic liquid handling workstations.
  • Design appropriate hardware layouts for processes.
  • Develop and validate pipetting techniques for accuracy, precision, and speed.
  • Analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks, and improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Provide training and documentation for workflows.
  • Develop LIMS integration capabilities.
  • Understand existing processes in detail.
  • Troubleshoot errors during production, both user errors and instrument failures.
  • Make recommendations for production continuation.
  • Provide real-time operational support to maintain production processes.
  • Analyze instrument data and results to correct issues.
  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing scripts on automated liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman).Define labware and fluid profiles for automated liquid handling instruments.
  • Optimize pipetting accuracy, precision, and speed.
  • Experience with hardware adjustments and repairs.
  • Experience with scripting and/or object-oriented software development.
  • Interface with management to communicate progress and expedite projects.
  • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Possess at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (chemical, physical, biological, engineering, or clinical laboratory science).
  • 2 years of experience preferred with a minimum of 8 months of hands-on experience in laboratory automation focused on liquid handling.
  • Proficiency in defining labware and fluid profiles for automated liquid handling instruments.
  • Experience with hardware adjustments and repairs is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with writing and executing test protocols.
  • Strong preference for experience with cellular and molecular assays, statistical analysis, and process monitoring.
