Overview

The URBN Data Science organization is responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining Machine Learning systems to support the URBN brands. Our expertise spans project management, machine learning, software engineering, data engineering, and analytics. Our team is a full-service Machine Learning solution provider, taking projects from ideation and requirements through deployment of production services. We work closely with the Engineering teams on a wide range of projects including an in-house personalization system, demand forecasting, dynamic pricing, and logistics optimization.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist who will support the technical execution of multiple initiatives in the Logistics domain. These include fulfillment, allocation, demand forecasting, and end-to-end logistics simulations. This role will interact closely with the Data Science organization leadership, the Data Science Program Manager, and stakeholders in the Logistics division in order to execute optimizations in logistics.

Responsibilities include:

  • ML Modeling: Build and evaluate statistical and machine learning models to support multi-node fulfillment objectives, inventory optimization, and forecasting.
  • Analysis: Process data sourced from disparate SQL databases. Execute models under various scenarios and configurations. Quantify the impact of those opportunities and communicate the outcome to peers and leaders.

Desired skills and experience

Machine Learning Techniques:

  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling applied to real-world business use cases
  • Proficiency in advanced analytics methodologies such as time series analysis, clustering, and classification. 

Machine Learning Tools:

  • Expert-level proficiency in Python for complex modeling.
  • Proficiency in SQL for complex data analysis across disparate data sources.
  • Familiarity with relevant data science libraries and tools (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, ggplot2).
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, etc.

Operations Research (Preferred):

  • Experience any of the following is preferred, but not required: logistics, forecasting, operations research, or optimization

Opportunities to Learn with the Team

  • Cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform)
  • Cloud infrastructure (Virtual Machines, Cloud Storage, IAM, etc.)
  • Performance evaluation of deployed applications, simulations, and ML models

Education

A degree in Computer Science, Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics or related field or equivalent job experience
