Developing mobile apps is great, but developing mobile apps with a purpose is even better! As a Software Engineer at Roche, you’ll work on a product that helps people with the most precious thing they have — their health. In collaborative teams of developers, designers, product owners, and QA experts, you’ll experience best-in-class software development practices on a daily basis and contribute to software that meets the highest expectations — we do not put our users' lives at risk!

Here’s what we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Android) who will have a significant impact on the software development process and moving your entire team forward. Your main contribution will be writing code while acting as a role model for the entire development team. You apply your experience in architectural and technical decision making, ensuring a high code quality and contribute your technical knowledge as a foundation for strategic product decisions, identifying and driving improvements of the product development process and its infrastructure.

Your upcoming mission:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience working as a Software Engineer (Android) with good knowledge of Kotlin
  • You have a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent technical knowledge
  • You are well acquainted with the Android platform and APIs
  • You have a passion for clean code and solid, future-proof architectures and you have testing in mind while you develop production code
  • You are able and open to learn new technologies and processes
  • You love working in and supporting an interdisciplinary team, together with developers, QAs, designers, and product owners
  • You enjoy guiding and sharing your knowledge with other developers
  • Great written and verbal communication in English, including technical terminology

What you will be working with:

  • We are always trying to stay on top of the game and use modern tools and approaches standardized across the industry.
  • Our codebase is Kotlin-first with usage of Dagger, Coroutines, reactive programming with Flows, Material design, ViewModel architecture and more
  • Unit tests and continuous integration is an important and integral part of our development process. We know there is no excuse not to write tests and the only way to go fast is to go well
  • You will learn about the wide range of technologies we employ, gaining a rich understanding of the specific requirements of medical software, be it security, medical risk management, safe and resilient programming, or certifications and audits

Bonus Skills:

  • Understanding of medical, security, and privacy regulations
  • Knowledge of the diabetes industry or other comparable health industries

Here's what you can expect from us:

  • Ambitious and passionate people building meaningful products
  • An innovative agile working environment allowing for collaboration with smart people and knowledge sharing in cross-functional teams
  • We welcome technical evangelists, so if you are interested in any thought leadership contributions (blogs, conferences) within the realm of the organization, we are happy to support you.

You will learn about the wide range of technologies we employ, from native mobile development to infrastructure-as-code in our cloud environment, gaining a rich understanding of the specific requirements of medical software, be it security, medical risk management, safe and resilient programming, or certifications and audits.

You will have direct contact with our users, learning about their daily struggles living with diabetes, as well as customers and partners, understanding the unique needs and mechanics of healthcare systems worldwide.
