Overview:

To perform all required layout, complex setups, manual and CNC machining. This includes subassembly, tool setting, deburring of parts, dimensional inspections, and final assembly of components according to required specifications in a timely manner. Ability to plan and oversee work with minimal supervision while directing other employees. Ability to train other employees on all functions and processes within the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts him or herself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Promotes safety and quality at all times.
  • Experienced and adept at manual and CNC machining ferrous and non-ferrous materials using vertical and horizontal lathes, milling machines, turrets and grinders.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Operates CNC mills and lathes, by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Set-up CNC mills and lathes, by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, stock pushers; indicating vices; and tramming heads.
  • Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities. 
  • Maintains a personal inventory of basic tooling needed to complete routine CNC and manual machining setups. 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5+ years' experience
  • G-Code Experience
  • Manual machining experience is desired
