Requirements
Senior Events Coordinator - Office of the Dean - Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences
Founded in 1789 as the nation’s first Catholic institution of higher learning, Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is committed to the Jesuit traditions of an integrated education and of productive research in the liberal arts, including fine arts, humanities, languages, sciences, and social sciences. The College seeks to expand the imagination, foster the life of the spirit, cultivate lifelong learning, encourage service to God and humanity, and promote respect for diversity in an age of global community.
Job Overview
The Senior Events Coordinator serves as the lead for planning, coordination and execution of all events managed within the CAS Dean’s Office. There are more than 50 events per year that vary in scale and complexity, both on and off the University campus. Events include, but are not limited to, Faculty Convocation, Parents’ Weekend, Family Weekend, Commencement, Dean’s Office meetings and receptions, and academic and fundraising events. Some events, such as Commencement, involve complex, year-long coordination with diverse stakeholders and multiple processes and tasks that culminate in the final event.
They also serve as the lead on events for the George F. Bakers Scholars Program, in support of the mission of CAS. The Baker Scholars Program is a 45-year-old signature, prestigious and distinctive program for CAS students, whereby students are relieved of loans and work study to perform valuable community service and prepared for careers in business and community-service-based entrepreneurship.
The Senior Events Coordinator is highly organized - able to anticipate needs, develop realistic budgets and work within those parameters, and set priorities and meet deadlines with little supervision. They necessarily work well under pressure and ably resolve unanticipated challenges in a way that is minimally disruptive to the event.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the CAS Chief of Staff, the Senior Events Coordinator interacts internally with CAS deans, faculty, staff and students, University offices (e.g., Advancement, President’s Office, Provost’s Office, Financial Affairs) - and externally with service providers or stakeholders, such as donors. They also work closely with Baker Scholars students, trustees and alumni in support of the program’s event planning and execution.
This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation.
