Summary:

METI seeks a dedicated Contract Level Deputy Program Manager and Washington Office Director to lead and manage a team of highly skilled professionals in supporting U.S. Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) initiatives promoting sustainability, environmental conservation, climate resilience and Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance on a global scale. This pivotal role requires a strategic leader comfortable managing high visibility and high dollar value U.S. Government funded programs, as well as the ability to work with partners and government entities worldwide.

Position Overview:

METI's Contract Level Deputy Program Manager and Washington Office Director will lead a high-performing staff in the successful execution of international and domestic forestry research and development projects. This key role oversees all aspects of project management, from scope of work development to budget management, ensuring timely delivery and maximum value. Effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders are essential, including USFS-IP, DOS, USAID, and other government agencies. Leveraging strong leadership and administrative skills, this individual will champion program success and play a pivotal role in advancing METI's mission. The position may involve up to 30% travel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in fields promoting sustainability, environmental conservation, climate resilience, or related areas.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with METI and USFS-IP leadership and client sponsors, leveraging tools and techniques from successful projects.
  • Demonstrated operational familiarity with administrative, hiring, contracting, recruitment, and financial management procedures in projects centered around environmental stewardship.
  • Senior- or mid-level management experience in administering complex projects fostering sustainability and climate resilience, with time-sensitive deliverables.
  • Prior experience in managing international projects or working with diverse teams.
  • Direct experience in sustainability, environmental conservation, climate change, disaster assistance and or related sectors is highly desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Personnel Management for Executives and or Senior Executive Service Management Training preferred.
  • US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities:

As the Contract Level Deputy Program Manager and Washington Office Director, the successful candidates responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for international programs focused on sustainability, environmental conservation, and climate resilience.
  • Leading and guiding high-performing teams, setting strategic goals, and ensuring timely delivery of time-sensitive project deliverables.
  • Overseeing the performance of USFS-IP projects/ tasks, including creating of scopes of work and work plans, assisting the customer with schedule development, reviewing deliverables, and participating in performance and budget reviews.
  • Managing and overseeing administrative aspects including hiring, contracting, recruitment, and financial management in projects promoting environmental stewardship.
  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with diverse stakeholders, fostering partnerships to enhance the quality of overall programs.
  • Establishing a new physical office location and the recruitment and hiring of staff.

  • The anticipated salary range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000. Compensation for the role will depend on several factors including qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience, and may fall outside the range shown.
