Summary

The Associate Director, Advanced Analytics & Insights position is a member of the Data and Analytics (D&A) Center of Excellence (COE) unit within the Pricing, Analytics & Contract Management (PACM) department. The COE operates within PACM to develop actionable insights that inform strategy and execution for US Market Access (USMA). 

This is a strategic position in our growing team that requires advanced analytics experience in the U.S. market access landscape with an in-depth understanding of value, pricing, and reimbursement dynamics. The role is key in the development of advanced analytical capabilities to create scalable solutions across therapeutic areas for USMA. In addition, this role will establish and maintain relationships with key Vertex stakeholders such as Global Insights Analytics and Commercial Operations (GIACO), Data Science Solutions (DSS), Data & Knowledge Management (DKM), and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) to deliver predictive analytic solutions aligned with USMA goals. The role requires the ability to apply advanced analytic techniques to address overarching market access questions and connect to the market access therapy area strategies. This position will implement predictive and prescriptive analytic frameworks and incorporate AI/ML solutions to address payer mix & controls, copay/OOP analytics, patient journey, post-deal and revenue leakage analysis. 

This position reports directly to the Senior Director, US Market Access Data & Analytics Center of Excellence and will serve as a core member of the COE. 

This is a hybrid/on-site role based in Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote on a weekly basis).

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Lead the delivery of therapeutic area specific analytical insights in response to market access landscape, issues, and trends. 
  • Generate deep insights as part of US market access pre & post launch activities by implementing advanced data models to identify trends in pricing & contracting, payer/PBMs, clinic/hospital economics, employer groups and value-based agreements. 
  • Help establish clear governance for advanced analytics and insights creation, dissemination of use cases across the USMA organization. Provide use case governance (intake process) on all use cases ensuring accuracy and application of AI/ML techniques. 
  • Understand the impact of utilization management, tiering, and formulary or medical policy impact on overall demand of therapeutic alternatives. Development of predictive models around patient access and formulary design. 
  • Perform longitudinal claims analysis and identify market dynamics that demonstrate the impact of payer controls and build models to portray risks, opportunities, and sensitivities including data enrichments & co-development of ML models & classifiers for deeper understanding. 
  • Inform and support future post-contract evaluations with pricing and contract operations teams. This will include payer mix and geographic considerations as well as payer coverage trends. 
  • Connect advanced analytics with overarching business/stakeholder questions and understand the link between market access strategy and execution. 
  • Manage stakeholders and lead advanced analytics to deliver compelling learnings and formulate analytical strategies appropriate to address access issues. 
  • Partner with USMA CRM resource(s) to leverage advanced VEEVA features & functionality and collaboratively develop and deliver account team insights. 
  • Evolve the analytics methods and capabilities from core dashboard reporting and simple database querying to advanced methods, enabling better decision-making for USMA Access Strategy teams.  
  • Lead the development of advanced analytic techniques and algorithms leveraging Vertex’s 1st Party data, such as, shipments (852/867), Model N and patient services data. Leverage 3rd Party data (such as IQVIA, MMIT, etc.) to define channel, segment, and payer mix. 
  • Leverage IQVIA’s DaaS (Data as a Service) platform to better understand patient journeys, diagnosis/treatment pathways across all therapeutic areas. 
  • Strong analytical and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Comfortable working in high-performance computing or cloud environment, such as, Snowflake, ML Ops and Power BI analytics. 
  • Ensure integration of all appropriate data (e.g., IQVIA, MMIT, Veeva CRM, patient services, product discounting, etc.) into analyses and provide holistic, clearly communicated deliverables that address business questions to drive business results. 
  • Build and foster strong partnership with GIACO, DSS, DKM, HEOR and other DTE (IT) teams, providing clear use case definition and guidance. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 8-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, 6+ years of insights, advanced analytics and reporting is required. 
  • Exceptional analytics and AI/ML skills with experience creating and/or supporting complex models. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the U.S. healthcare landscape and key Vertex therapeutic areas. 
  • High proficiency in working on Snowflake data platform; Hands on experience in Tableau/Power BI analytics, SQL and ML Ops; Strong expertise in analytical software such as Python, SAS and R Studio. 
  • Ability to communicate confidently and succinctly to senior leaders and manage complexity and ambiguity in a highly matrixed environment. 
  • Record of accomplishment in managing multiple projects, including work plans and deliverables. 
  • Strong collaboration, stakeholder management and teaming skills. 
  • Strong story telling capabilities; ability to distill complex information synthesized into concise and impactful messages and communications to senior leaders. 
  • Experience with pharmacy and medical claims data. 
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher. 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to proactively develop creative solutions to complex problems. 
  • Good understanding of state and federal policies and government programs impacting market access, distribution, and gross-to-net implications 
  • Good understanding of statutory government pricing methodologies 
  • 3-5 years of pharmaceutical manufacturer market access experience and subject matter expertise with health plans, PBMs, hospital systems, specialty pharmacies and healthcare policy stakeholders. 
  • 3-5 years of working in an advanced analytics COE function, including application of AI/ML models.
