The Infrastructure Operations organization is looking for an extraordinary individual with proven and tested leadership and management skills as a leader in our data center operations organization in Eastern Oregon as a Data Center Operations (DCO) Cluster Manager.

The manager of Data Center Operations is one of our most senior management roles in the data center environment. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a large organization, managing department heads who own data center infrastructure including the operational availability of network and server systems at scale.

The ideal candidate for this role will have an understanding of data center IT infrastructure and Amazon Web Services and understand how the two coexist. If this understanding is contextual you will be served well by your experience.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead a team of several functions to oversee the operations of critical facilities in multiple sites within a region
  • Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.
  • Shape a strategic operations model to fit into future capacity growth
  • Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.
  • Write and deliver annual performance reviews to staff
  • Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe
  • Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including data center managers and data center operations technicians.
  • Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of AWS data center build-outs, colocation build-outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate the daily operations.
  • Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific task balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
  • Safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in computer science or related engineering discipline OR equivalent experience managing technical operations or engineering teams.
  • 8+ years of experience operating as a manager of managers.
  • 10+ years of experience working with operations in computer technologies and/or critical facilities
  • 12+ years management experience in an operations, critical infrastructure, manufacturing, production, or distribution environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Solid track record in building high performance culture.
  • 5+ years experience in safety, security, or availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • Proven achievements in continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
  • 5+ years experience managing geographically dispersed teams
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with mission critical infrastructure
  • Expertise in one or more continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
  • PMP/PMI certification
