UC Health is hiring for a Clinical Staff Pharmacist in our infusion pharmacy department in the Barrett Cancer Center; Blood Cancer Healing Center

General: Clinical staff pharmacists fill orders for medications, monitor patient medication therapies, provide drug information, and supervise and direct support personnel. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, a clinical staff pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the pharmacy manager.

Specific: Clinical staff pharmacists in UC Medical Center infusion centers work collaboratively with interprofessional colleagues to care for oncology and non-oncology patients receiving infusion agents and advanced therapies. The pharmacist works with certified and infusion pharmacy technicians, clinical pharmacy specialists, and pharmacy leadership to promote comprehensive cancer care delivery.

  • Prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately; maintains accurate, complete medication profiles Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as required by law.
  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
  • Maintains competence required for current job title/position.
  • Meets hospital and department standards of performance.
  • Maintains competence required for current job title/position.
  • Assists with pharmacokinetics consult service and drug dosing per organizational protocol.

Education: B.S. in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy is required. PharmD preferred degree.

License and Certification: Licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Ohio ACLS preferred.

Years of Experience: Minimum Required: 0-1 years of experience, Greater than or equal to a six-month hospital pharmacy internship or hospital experience as a pharmacist is preferred. Preference will be given to completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Required Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergent requests; exercise sound professional judgment; communicate effectively (orally and in writing); and meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by UC Health.
