PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide support to identified students with disabilities who require additional support and supervision throughout the school day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
- PAC Test (No Chid Left Behind) / 48 College Hours
- Bilingual Test (if applicable)
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Ability to work with children who exhibit severe behavior challenges
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle
- Ability to read a map and navigate an automobile
- Basic computer and typing skills
- Time management skills
- Organizational skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality issues
- Ability to maintain a schedule
- Experience: Previous work experience with behavioral children
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist teacher in routine classroom management duties.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials.
- Assist in maintaining classroom environment and supplies.
- Assist students in homework preparation, test taking.
- Modify teacher's assignments, tests, and other instructional entities.
- Maintain records, files and other pertinent documents on each student.
- Communicate students' needs to faculty and staff.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty, staff.
- Assist in implementing student's behavior management plan.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of the school buses.
- Participate in the activities involved with physical education classes.
- Assist with individual student's personal hygiene needs.
- Feed or assist students in feeding themselves.
- Lift, move, and position students in a variety of settings.
- Be aware of student's various medical concerns.
- Escort students to different locations in the building.
- Monitor students during various activities during the school day.
- Be able to work with any student as determined by the student’s I.E.P.
- File various documents in students’ folders.
- Assist in orienting students to class schedule each semester.
- Obtain any necessary textbooks for different programs.
- Perform other duties as determined by the special education teacher or the principal.

Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate verbally and written with students, faculty, staff, and community
Ability to read and interpret written instructions. Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students, equipment, and materials, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases
