About MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - C5-2
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a multidisciplinary unit that provides care for critically ill patients with ages ranging from neonates to 21 years. The unit is supported by the full spectrum of medical and surgical services. The PICU specializes in the care of complex transplant patients, such as pediatric liver, kidney, small bowel and multivisceral organ transplants. As one of MedStar Georgetown's Centers of Excellence, the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute draws pediatric patients from all around the world for our growing program, which recently introduced pediatric living donor transplants and domino transplants.
The PICU provides the highest level of care to critically ill medical and surgical patients including those requiring high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration and inhaled nitric oxide. A team of pediatric intensivists supervises the care of all patients in partnership with residents, interns and attending physicians from other specialties.
Flexible PRN Scheduling Minimum of six 12-hour shifts per six week schedule, including 4 night or weekend shifts
Position Summary
Professional care provider who assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with various members of the interdisciplinary team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
PRACTICE and QUALITY Provide relationship-based care that promotes continuous, consistent, efficient, and accountable delivery of nursing care using the nursing process. Demonstrates professional practice utilizing the framework of the professional practice model and is grounded in a culture of safety and quality.
COMMUNICATION and COLLABORATION Communicates and collaborates with interprofessional groups to ensure coordination, continuity, and safe care.
Communicates verbal information and documents are written and electronic information that reflects the planned and delivered care for patients.
LEADERSHIP Supports and contributes to the unit, department, and organizational goals inclusive of the mission, vision, and values. Demonstrates advocacy and support on behalf of interprofessional teams and patients. Delegates and supervises nursing staff in providing patient care and assumes leadership roles, e.g., charge nurse role. Participates in the development and implementation of quality activities.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Serves as a preceptor or mentor. Participates in professional development activities. Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery.
