Hatch is looking for an energetic, creative and self-motivated Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer for our Water practice in Columbus, OH. The ideal candidate must have a passion for working in team environment, superior communication skills, and the desire to grow their career along with our firm. 

Reports to Regional Manager, Control, Automation & Electrical

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure coordination, between the electrical and systems and process control teams and other disciplines, of all activities being performed as designs evolve.
  • Preparation and review of all engineering documentation within discipline including, but not limited to, the following documents, lists, calculations and detail drawings; Instrumentation and Controls Design Criteria, Control Philosophy and conceptual design of ,industrial control systems, Control Narratives, instrument index, I/O lists, instrumentation calculations, data sheets, specifications, selection and sizing, P&ID’s, system architecture drawings, instrument location drawings, installation detail drawings, wiring and interconnection diagrams, ISA loop drawings, motor control schematics.
  • Overseeing production of scope of work documentation, engineering and construction work packages and performing quality checks and verification of compliance to all relevant standards and internal procedures; Checking and verifying construction drawings, vendor drawings, material requisitions and approval of bid tabulations and field checkout; Construction support, commissioning, and start-up assistance.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer.
  • 10 or more years of professional experience in Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls in the Water/Wastewater industry; assembling P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, control network architectures and instrument details; provide design and construction cost estimates for I&C work; ability to track design and construction progress costs; SCADA and HMI programming.
  • Must have a solid track-record in management and business development, with exceptional relationship-building skills.
  • Have credibility, stature and personal presence to lead the individuals and operate effectively as a key member of the team.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the interactions between the various engineering disciplines, with strong sustainable infrastructure credentials and can exploit potential synergies with our client.
  • Knowledge and application of electrical and systems and process control codes and standards.
  • Experience working on large or complex projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline.
  • Good understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies.
  • Thorough understanding of HSEC policies and standards.
  • Strong ability to delegate tasks and promote the effective performance of team members.
  • Experience in mentoring young professionals.

Preferred (not required)

  • Experience with engineering tools such as SmartPlant Instrumentation (InTools, Intergraph), Plantspace P&ID (Intelligent P&ID’s, Bentley, MicroStation), 3D modeling (Bentley), and Relational Databases (administration & coordination).
  • Experience with digital communications and fieldbus technologies, networking, and hardware; DCS (Siemens PCS 7, Delta-V) or PLC (Allen Bradley) hardware and software.
