Cellular Business Operation Manager

Itron is expanding its Managed Services Organization around the globe that is designed to serve thousands of utility companies, that span 100+ countries and manage 100M+ devices. We are looking to extend our operations team in Budapest with a business and process-minded member who has experience in the field of cellular relationship operation. This position will collaborate with multiple functions across various geographies within the company and with major cellular carriers across the globe.

The Cellular Business Operation Manager’s main responsibility will be to formalize and operate the processes related to onboarding new carriers and provisioning SIMs and subscriptions that Itron is incorporating into the managed services solutions provided to our customers.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of a registry of existing commercial agreements with carriers
  • Development and maintenance of a catalog of available carrier services
  • Implementation of new services along existing carrier agreements
  • Implementation of new carrier agreements
  • Create and maintain cellular services-related commercial models
  • Provide cellular service-related commercial offers to be incorporated into bid documents
  • Onboarding of new cellular carriers
  • Ownership of the process and technical tooling of SIM ordering and provisioning
  • Ownership of the intra-company SIM delivery logistics
  • Development and maintenance of the SIM registry
  • Controlling of the bills initiated by the cellular carriers
  • Contribution to the reconciliation of costs incurred with carriers and cellular services bills presented to our customers
  • Contribution to the profitability calculation of cellular services
  • 1st level relationship and technical contact towards carriers

Required Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • BA or MA education preferably on the intersection of technology and business
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Broad understanding of cellular communication and cellular data communication technologies
  • Broad understanding of network technologies (e.g., WAN, LAN, WLAN, VPN) and IoT
  • Generic knowledge and experience of
  • M2M Cellular Technologies (2G/3G/4G/5G, LTE-M/CAT M1, NBIoT etc.) and 3GPP standard
  • Mobile Network Operators (MNOs/Cellular) and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs)
  • Technical setup for APNs (private/public), IP VPNs, M2M portals etc.
  • SIM technologies and types (plastic vs. eSIM, eUICC etc.) and processes around it (ordering/activation/suspension/termination etc.)
  • Cellular protocols (e.g. LWM2M etc.) and M2M cellular contracts insights like data volumes/data pooling/roaming etc.
  • LoRa, Sigfox and other wireless IoT-oriented communication technologies
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Strong capability to exercise business judgement
  • Strong process and project-oriented thinking
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • RFI/RFP contribution experience
  • Good command of English
  • Dexterity in utilizing data manipulation tools (Excel, SQL, Power, BI)
  • Communicative, self‐motivated personality, who can work independently and takes initiative
  • Ability willingness to work flexibly across multiple time zones

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience gained working for a cellular data carrier
  • Experience in offer creation and interaction with sales teams
  • Process design experience
  • Project management experience
