The College Laboratory Technician will work under the supervision of the department chair in the health sciences department and will be responsible for the operational coordination of the Veterinary Technology Center (VTC). Duties Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of the Vet Tech Center. Includes assisting/providing medical care, detailed and consistent record-keeping, set-up/break-down of teaching lab classes, health checks, husbandry, and other related duties.
  • Supervision, training and evaluation of students during husbandry care.
  • Assist with the maintenance, trouble-shoot and use of equipment including radiological, surgical, anesthetic, environmental, and regulatory/safety equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with all government (federal, state, local) and internal regulatory agencies, as they relate to the operation of the VTC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current NYS licensed veterinary technician (LVT) and a graduate of an AVMA-accredited program in Veterinary Technology
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a LVT; one year supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; the ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with others for the good of the institution
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with organizational tasks, computerized record keeping, controlled drugs and inventory
  • Flexible work hours required
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds

COMPENSATION

$31.22 - $45.11
