DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for an experienced attorney with extensive lobbying and advocacy experience to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services, such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers, and more. We are looking for a talented attorney to support our global advocacy efforts related to regulatory risk and compliance.

You will be part of a global team responsible for counseling AWS on a broad range of environmental, health & safety, product safety, trade, transportation, logistics, supply chain, sustainability and corporate social responsibility matters. You will work closely with legal colleagues and work directly with multiple AWS business functions globally, including our public policy teams, with responsibility for advocacy on a broad range of matters, including cutting-edge areas of developing regulation and policy. This position will create, execute and manage mitigation and engagement strategies and positions, and partner with business teams to coordinate external advocacy outreach on public policy issues globally.

Key job responsibilities

Principal duties include (i) monitoring, assessing and advising on salient policy and regulatory changes; (ii) working with business teams to assess implications for AWS operations; (iii) securing alignment between business priorities, AWS customer interests and public policy goals; (iv) partnering with public policy teams to develop engagement strategies; and (v) drafting position papers and submissions. The role will own driving efficiencies in regulatory monitoring, assessment, influencing and implementation.

The qualified candidate must have 10 or more years of legal experience with at least five years’ experience on policy and regulatory initiatives. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, and enjoy working hard, being challenged, and working in a fun, team-oriented environment. They must also demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations and be adept at driving consensus.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of legal experience
  • 5+ years of experience providing legal counsel and advocacy in highly regulated sectors
  • A J.D. degree (or equivalent) and membership in good standing in at least one state bar

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others
  • Experience with data center issues
  • A combination of law firm and in-house experience
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to influence with or without formal authority

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $146,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $272,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
