Your Role:

The Manager, Digital Publishing Systems oversees and manages the day to day operations of APMG digital media asset publishing systems and workflows.

This position directly oversees all digital media delivery systems including but not limited to audio publishing systems and vendors, ad serving and traffic systems, and internal workflow tools and processes. The Manager is responsible for continuous high-level planning and support of media publishing and delivery systems. That includes planning and development of integrations, workflow, training, technical strategy, and development of architecture and technical plans. This position manages projects and initiates research and development efforts. The Manager collaborates within the division and throughout the organization to ensure APMG’s readiness and investment in evolving media platforms and ad serving technology to enable audience and revenue growth.

The Manager, Digital Publishing Systems leads the Traffic team and is responsible for long-term planning and general coordination of the team’s activities. The position coordinates closely with the Lead Traffic Associate to ensure consistent and effective service alongside the Sales, Technology, and Content teams. The position is responsible for identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiency, improved service, and integration in the Traffic systems.

Expected Compensation Range: $110,000 - $120,000/yr. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Position Responsibility:

  • Research, develop, plan, design, deploy and manage media publishing systems, infrastructure and associated support for cloud based on on-premises systems.
  • Work with Media Technology, Traffic, Media Operations, software Development, Broadcast Engineering and IT infrastructure staff to foster a professional, creative, energetic, and technically savvy team.
  • Propose integrations and custom solutions to enable APMG publishing and ad traffic systems to serve all stakeholders. Stakeholders include Content teams, Audience Insights, Distribution, Media Operations, Digtial Products, IT infrastructure, Archive, Traffic, and Regional, National, and Digital Sales teams.
  • Serve as the primary Traffic liaison and negotiator with Sales, Content and Technology.
  • Manage FCC, APM and MPR traffic guidelines and procedures.
  • Manage the delivery channels of information to the traffic department.
  • Manage and resolve traffic task and performance discrepancies.
  • Manage the traffic services including monitoring to ensure accuracy of the traffic tasks.
  • Supports APM|MPR strategic goals and initiatives by engaging in the creation, planning and implementation of special projects throughout the company.
  • Establishes and enforces clean and effective standard operating procedures and holds staff accountable to those standards.
  • Develop and maintain workflow standards and user training.
  • Align with and support ongoing strategy, implementation, and development in support of content delivery strategic goals.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage life cycle planning for media publishing systems. These include, but are not limited to: vendor relationships, hardware, architecture and life cycle management, quality control, resource planning, and informing the ongoing budgeting and planning process.
  • Manage industry and vendor relationships regarding respective hardware, software, consulting and maintenance agreements.
  • Assist in managing the capital and operational budgets in support of APMG technology systems and services
  • Initiate, manage and oversee project plans and act as project manager as assigned.
  • Develop and initiate disaster recovery plan for all media publishing systems, including ensuring regular test procedures and user training are in place for long-term media publishing operations continuity.
  • Openly and proactively communicate ideas, plans, issues and concerns to stakeholders.
  • Maintain high level working knowledge of ad traffic systems and industry trends; use this information for continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage cross-divisional relationships and serves as a representative of Technology, Traffic, and Operations throughout APMG.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies and participates in research and development activities in support of APMG strategic directives and goals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Seven or more years experience in media technology systems, ad serving technologies, engineering, production, and media operations.
  • Five years experience in project management, leading teams, and cross divisional efforts.
  • Extensive experience in managing and operating computer-based audio and video technologies, media automation systems, digital audio workstations, audio codecs, multicast audio, IP streaming, and Internet audio delivery systems. 
  • Supervisory/management experience is required - must demonstrate an ability to foster high standards and an ability to coach, inspire and lead. 
  • Experience in technology systems planning, development, and implementation.
  • Computer literate with experience using PC and Mac platforms.
  • Digital media literacy

Reporting To This Position:

  • 4-5 Traffic staff

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
