Total Wine & More is looking for a Sr. Manager, Market Research to join the Marketing Department and work onsite in Bethesda, Maryland. Marketing’s Consumer Insights and Analytics team is fast-growing in our Marketing Department. You will assist in providing business leaders across the organization with timely and accurate information on consumer behavior, attitudes, market dynamics, competitive intelligence, and other information on the external environment. You would support business leaders in decision making and develop a strong understanding of consumer motivations in the wine, beer, and spirits retail space. The ideal candidate is an individual with an excellent ability to document, synthesize, and derive key insights from customer and consumer voice. They must be able to communicate confidently with executives, lead initiatives autonomously, and proactively take ownership of new opportunities. You will report to the Vice President, Customer Analytics & Marketing Insights. 

You will: 

  • Manage the execution of primary research projects (qualitative and quantitative) and coordinate all aspects of Customer Market Research including business scoping, project management, design and methodology, analysis and reporting. 
  • Lead the Agency relationship with external research partners and consultants to collect and gather customized market insights, tailored to provide actionable insights to our internal business needs. 
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to locate the gaps in our current information and understanding of the market and develop research plans and solutions for these problems. 
  • Manage external vendors to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of outsourced research projects 
  • Partner with external partner research departments, to both understand their methodologies and integrate their insights into our own understanding of the market 
  • Synthesize data across multiple sources (e.g., POS data, survey data, customer service feedback, external sources) 
  • Use insights and influence to support cross-functional stakeholders, enabling key decisions ground in customer and market insights that will generate greater sales, profit and long-term customer loyalty 
  • Work with teammates to provide a comprehensive and consistent voice of the customer and market to business leaders across the organization, and assist in building guidance for future strategic plans in Marketing and other functions 

You will come with: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, mathematics, statistics, or social sciences 
  • 6+ years of market research experience (client-side experience is ideal) 
  • Deep expertise in online survey methodology, writing, development (using common industry platforms), and analysis 
  • Ability to communicate confidently with executives, lead initiatives autonomously, and proactively take ownership of new opportunities to contribute knowledge within the larger organization. 
  • Experience analyzing large datasets; SQL experience working with relational databases a plus 
  • Experience in any of the following qualitative research methods: focus groups/triads/one-on-one interviews, shop-a-longs, in-home ethnographic interviews a plus 
  • Retail or CPG experience a plus
