Job Description:

SUMMARY:

It’s an exciting time to join Rakuten’s in-house creative team, and we are looking for a talented Senior Copywriter to join our group of seasoned creatives and marketers. We are seeking a Senior Copywriter with exceptional drive, conceptual thinking skills, and experience to continue to build and progress the Rakuten brand.

In this position, you will concept and create campaigns and copy for promotional creative across email, site, social and video assets. You will collaborate with a team of art directors, designer, and copywriters to develop break through work that drives the Rakuten brand forward.

This is a role located in San Francisco, CA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop bold ideas and creative approaches to telling Rakuten’s story in ways that drives acquisition, education and creates member loyalty.
  • Concept, copywriting and execute campaigns across different mediums (emails, social, site, video, and experiential), and provide copy support to the greater team as needed, outside of assigned projects.
  • Collaborate closely with art directors to concept and execute ideas from start to finish.
  • Proactively bring ideas to the table when collaborating with a partner, and think beyond the brief to push the work forward and solve the problem in an effective way.
  • Prepare and present conceptual ideas that are grounded in strategic insights, with idea write-ups and copy that are consistent with our brand voice and tone.
  • Bring strategic solutions for creative problems, seek to improve existing ideas, and create efficiencies in the way that the team works.
  • Communicate and present concepts to creative leads, executives, and stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Own on-brief and on-brand business-as-usual projects with minimal oversight from leads, and take a lead role in developing larger, focused conceptual projects with more oversight from leads.
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills and grasp of correct grammar and punctuation, as well as outstanding attention to detail to ensure that all copy delivered to internal stakeholders is delivered at a high standard of excellence.
  • Partner closely with senior creative leadership, production, and project managers to bring ideas to life, ensure all objectives and deadlines are met. Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure we are always delivering an elevated and consistent experience to our members.
  • Own success for projects with basic to medium complexity that requires conceptual thought.
  • Responsible for delivering quality work that adheres to briefs, is on brand, and is forward thinking. 
  • Bring knowledge of culture and trends to the table to push our brand forward.

QUALIFICATION (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience in creative roles at an advertising agency, in-house creative team, and/or similar brand.
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates strategic and conceptual thinking and outstanding writing skills applied across a range of channels.

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.

USD $78,651.00 - $135,216.00 annually
