Job Description

Position Overview

The Category Manager is responsible for developing unique, innovative and successful new products

within their product categories. This extends from increasing profitability of existing products to

developing new products for the company. The Category Manager must demonstrate expertise in their

product categories. This includes spending time in the market to understand current problems, working

with the sales team and then finding innovative solutions for the broader market. They must have

firsthand knowledge of how products perform based upon their own use and familiarity with the product.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for the sales and gross margin dollars of our food service/professional business as

well as our weather products. Gross margin percent must be maintained or grown during the

course of the year.

  • Provide innovation through the development of new concepts, procedures, price-points,

packaging. Multi-media aids, and presentation ideas.

  • Focus on the end distributor/customers/consumer first to ensure products resonate with the

target markets.

  • Familiar with all levels and types of retailers including, traditional “Brick and Mortar” as well as

omni-channel and online only merchants. Food service industry experience a plus. Hardware co-

op channel experience also beneficial.

  • Provide direct support to the sales team for retailer/distributor requirements in regards to

packaging, presentations and execution, coupled with programs and products innovative enough

to deliver better margins for all involved while ensuring placement and support of product(s).

  • Understand and lead daily communication with suppliers providing accurate and timely

information concerning product design, packaging, samples, regulatory requirements, production

requirements and shipping dates. Work closely with the industrial designer, program manager

and project engineers to ensure all dates are met.

  • Develop an understanding of overseas and domestic production processes, materials and

technology used in order to improve comprehension of how goods are manufactured.

  • Collaborate with internal industrial design to ensure the best possible product designs are

created with corporate success in mind. Experience with ground up development and re-

engineering of products is required.

  • Experience collaborating with a graphics team on product artwork, packaging, marketing

materials, catalogs and all other printed materials used for business purposes.

  • Support management of trade shows through merchandising, signage development, on-site

customer sales meetings, set-up and tear down as needed.

  • Work with Forecasting to help to maintain inventory at acceptable levels, as directed by the

Division President. Includes identification of discontinued and overstock quantities on a monthly

basis.

  • Visit stores on a regular basis to remain up to date on what competitors are doing and to

increase knowledge regarding competitive factors relative to newness, uniqueness and creativity.

  • Domestic and International travel may be required, based on business needs. (Policy subject to

change)

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s level degree
  • Experience: 2 – 5 years in the field or in a related area. Food Service industry a plus.
  • Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: Experience with SAP, AWS, and Google Mail. Ability to

work independently in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of P&L creation and management,

gross margin calculation and its requirements in our business.

  • Working Conditions: General office environment (office/home hybrid model until further notice)
  • Other Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage time in

an efficient manner and prioritize effectively. Strong understanding of the retail industry.
