Job Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Academic Advising Center (AAC) at the University of Florida seeks candidates for a Lecturer to coordinate and deliver various programmatic and curricular aspects of the college’s program (Beyond120) focused on undergraduate research. This is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure accruing, renewable position. The Lecturer will have an appreciation of a liberal arts education and provide individual guidance to CLAS students as they evaluate career paths and pursue experiential learning and industry-related experiences (non-profit, public, and private sectors) while planning for full-time employment options. As a Lecturer, the candidate will be responsible for:

Teaching

  • Teaching typically consists of eight 1 credit courses per year at the undergraduate level including an Introduction to Research course for CLAS students. This position will have primary responsibility for course content and will teach sections of this course and other Beyond120 coursework in each term (3/3/2: 3 courses in fall, 3 courses in spring, 2 courses in summer)
  • Additional courses can include preparation for graduate school, Adulting 101, and Professional Pathways. Specific arrangements are dependent on unit/semester needs.

Research Experience & Instructional Activity

  • Administration of the College Scholars Program. This includes promoting applications to the program, oversight and administration of the program, and arranging for the review of applications and the administration of research awards.
  • Oversight and administration of other Beyond120 research programs, including BMS Science Scholars and Mignardi Chemistry Scholars. 
  • One-on-one coaching/advising for CLAS undergraduate students interested in research opportunities, as well as workshops and special events for students. This includes promoting nationally competitive research programs, as well as local experiences. 
  • Collaborating with college leadership and faculty to identify and promote student access to research.
  • Tracking and reporting trends in the numbers of CLAS students involved in undergraduate research.
  • Collaborating with the college’s Beyond120 team more generally in its mission of promoting experiential learning, career readiness, and professional development. 
  • Maintaining and updating the research-related pages and content on the Beyond120 website.

Service

  • Collaborate with the Center for Undergraduate Research and serve as liaison for Beyond120
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
  • Identify opportunities to advance Beyond120, undergraduate research, and experiential learning opportunities

Expected Salary:

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s Degree in relevant field that applies to working with students in liberal arts and sciences.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in a CLAS-related non-STEM subject preferred

An understanding of liberal arts and sciences career paths and a desire to promote the career and professional development of liberal arts and sciences students

Previous experience working with diverse populations

Strong interpersonal and instructional skills

Project management skills and a demonstrated ability to set priorities among competing demands.
