As the Global Services Solutions Leader – BESS, you will use your strong leadership and business development skills, deep knowledge of the battery energy storage industry and the applicable Honeywell solutions and associated value propositions to enable the profitable growth of services related to the Battery Energy Storage Vertical across the globe.

This role reports into the Global TSC Manager – BESS and is primarily responsible for building go-to-market long-term services agreement (LTSA) strategies, working collaboratively with business development and sales organizations across the globe. You will be responsible for bringing a deep understanding of the energy storage services market, customer needs, trends, and government policies to the development of a LTSA pursuit strategy. This role also liaises with and provides customer insights to the Services Technical Solutions Consultants in the pole, as they pull together complex technical responses to LTSA proposal requests. This role also works collaboratively with other solutions leaders in the vertical to ensure alignment and consistencies across the globe.

Additionally, this role also encompasses Services TSC responsibilities. As such, the Global Services Solutions Leader – BESS is also responsible for developing the technical scope required to deliver BESS LTSA proposals and involves developing collaborative technical relationships with customer prospects. It includes understanding the customer long term services, operational needs, and life cycle requirements; the selection of supplier services; and the engineering and technical aspects of the BESS services to ensure low life cycle cost, quality, reliability, constructability, and operation. Additionally, the Global Services Solutions Leader – BESS, is responsible to understand applicable regional electrical codes and standards, and cybersecurity/NERC-CIP (or equivalent) requirements. This individual will possess a combination of technical depth in the areas of field and remote operational services related to Power Generation, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Energy Management, Process Control, Industrial Networking and Renewable Energy specific technologies.

In addition to Global Services Solutions Leader related responsibilities, this role also encompasses Services TSC supervisor responsibilities. Supervisory responsibilities include for supervising a pole-based team of technical services solutions consultants (S-TSCs), focused on pre-sales technical support and customer segment solutions, for the development and implementation of complex and customer segment specific LTSA solutions. You will participate in pursuit strategy planning, proposal team resourcing related to S-TSCs and work closely with the Vertical Leader, the Global Technical Solutions Manager – BESS, Business Development & Sales, Proposals & Estimations teams, Procurement, LSS & LOB leaders.

The Global Services Solutions Leader – BESS is responsible for benchmarking and evaluating new services technologies or new offerings from suppliers to integrate into our solutions. Additionally, the role is responsible for supporting the identification and development of key partnerships in their associated pole. Attendance at key and trade shows and technical conferences and presenting at such events is required when assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervision of global BESS Services TSC team and associated workforce planning.
  • Assemble high performance teams and drive ongoing improvement in skills & effectiveness.
  • Ensure effective performance management processes, development of future management/TSC/services capabilities with attractive career plans.
  • Drive planning, coordination, and execution of the services proposals within the global organization.
  • Develop, contribute to, and ensure availability of tools, equipment and materials required to drive productivity in services solution development enable to the development of high-quality services proposals and estimates.
  • Plan, develop and support staffing of key personnel for the BESS services proposals organizations through robust and effective engagement with business development, sales, and proposals & estimation teams.
  • Be a change agent - influence, consult, and lead efforts for sharing and standardizing of best-in-class long-term services solutions.
  • Coordinate customer segment focused services solutions across various lines of business to act as a trusted client partner, relied on for strategic points of view to drive value-based solutions; facilitate cross SBG engagement at across the globe.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and analytic consulting to businesses, sales, LSS, and vertical leadership.
  • Work with the Pole Market Development Leads to align and drive the customer segment services growth strategy for the vertical in the Pole.
  • Build strong relationships with key customers in the Pole, relative to the associated customer services segment.
  • Form and manage strategic partnerships with 3rd parties needed to support the new services business models.
  • Define, create, and socialize services solutions offerings for industry and sub-industry solutions including supporting collateral (PPT, battlecard), target accounts/clients.
  • Collaborating with other Vertical Solutions Leaders and Offering Management leaders to implement best practices and strategies for the globe.
  • Collaborate with offering management and technical solutions consultants to actively contribute as part of the relevant services NPI business teams for the Vertical
  • Collaborate with the other team members in the preparation and coordination of LTSA proposals, requests for information, and other marketing efforts.
  • Responsible for the technical review and understanding of the customer’s long-term services requirements in their requests for LTSA proposals including spare parts, remote operations and Forge related applications along with performance guarantees, availability guarantees, etc.
  • Responsible for the development, review, and technical oversight of services components of battery energy storage LTSA proposals.
  • Ensure proposed solutions adhere to applicable industry standards and electrical engineering design principles as they relate to specifically to renewable energy systems, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV (photovoltaic), and power systems.
  • Understand lithium-ion battery technology and industry services practices to provide guidance to the organization on the application of LTSA programs.
  • Benchmark competitor’s products & offerings and communicate to team.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable codes & standards and certifications in the energy storage and renewable industry.

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • +5 years of related technical experience, particularly in the delivery or servicing of electrical projects such as battery energy storage project, microgrids and microgrid controls applications.
  • +5 additional years of experience as a technical or business development lead, responsible for the delivery of electrical projects such as battery energy storage project, microgrids and microgrid controls applications.
  • Experience leading small technical teams or people management considered as asset.

WE VALUE:

  • Experience as a technical, services, or business development lead, responsible for the delivery of BESS and microgrid controls projects.
  • Experience and solid understanding of how battery energy storage projects are serviced, including how site technical issues are resolved, as well as:
  • Solid understanding of Inverters and DC converters as part of BESS projects, including a strong understanding of inverter controls, fast response, ride-thru, PQ curves, AVR, and operational standards.
  • Solid understanding of single-line drawings and equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment), system studies and protective relay settings as applicable to behind the meter and front of the meter renewable projects.
  • Comprehensive understanding, interpretation, and application of industry standards and grid codes for electrical power systems, as required by customer location, such as Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code and other applicable electrical codes.
  • Experience developing and maintaining spare parts lists, and key on-site equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Solid understanding of battery energy storage augmentation strategies and lithium-ion battery management systems.
  • Experience and solid understanding of microgrids, renewable energy integration and battery energy storage systems & microgrid controls, energy management systems, and electrical SCADA applications, as well as:
  • Knowledge of various control schemes (frequency, voltage, VARS, ride-through, etc.), protection schemes, and regulatory requirements pertaining to grid operations.
  • Knowledge of applicable renewable and electrical codes and standards such as IEEE, 1547, NERC-CIP requirements, IEC61850, Sunspec, MESA standards, and LGIA requirements.
  • Working knowledge of utility industry communications protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC61580); SEL RTAC programming experience a plus.
  • Experience troubleshooting microgrid control systems that are not functioning properly.
  • Experience with grid simulation studies and test software to ensure microgrid controls solutions meet customer requirements.
  • Capable of programming using function blocks, SQL, Visual Basic, C, C++, C#, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of remote operations and customer operational requirements.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity and NERC-CIP operations requirements, or regional equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of energy markets in associated pole and the various use cases for energy storage, for both behind the meter and front of the meter.
  • Experience reviewing customer and engineering services requirements and responding to requests for LTSA proposals by developing LTSA scope documents, technical reports, cost estimates, and proposal documentation.
  • Leadership, teambuilding, and mentoring skills; effectively communicate instructions while leading the team to meet their goals.
  • Experience in hiring and supervising staff, managing and driving performance management process.
