Job Summary Job Summary Reporting to the Head of School, the Campus Dean of Jewish Life and Learning is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of Jewish studies for our students, faculty and community by thinking creatively, profoundly, and technologically about how SDJA serves its mission to enrich Jewish life. The Director will lead the ongoing Judaic Studies curriculum revision process in grades K-12 as well as provide opportunities for Jewish life and culture to flourish on the campus. This role includes teaching duties. Some evening and weekend commitments are required. Duties and Responsibilities to include: * Teach 1-3 courses to high school students as needed * Teach single lessons or short units of the curriculum to students across divisions as needed * Support special projects (e.g. Moot Beit Din judge, support student written divrei torah, etc.) * Develop/organize/identify staff development opportunities for the Jewish Studies teachers * Lead monthly all-faculty Batei Midrash, and lead chavruta learning at select board and senior leadership team meetings * Coordinate adult-ed classes and teach as required (e.g. Jewish Parenting series) * Help coordinate and lead student religious services, Kabbalat Shabbat and performances at Jewish themed events across divisions and lead/support musical elements of the ceremonies (e.g. work with/perform with the upper and lower school Shabbat bands) * Provide rabbinic/spiritual presence/leadership at school events * Assist in searching for and hiring Jewish Studies faculty * Monitor, support, evaluate ongoing JS curriculum implementation process based on JS Mastery Grid * Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with SDJA faculty/staff, students and parents as well as other Jewish communities and communal leaders * Attend staff, department, committee, and leadership team meetings as required * Perform all other duties as assigned Requirements / Qualifications Requirements / Qualifications
Comments and Other Information Knowledge & Skills: * Jewish education and general education pedagogy and practices * Jewish studies including Bible, rabbinic literature, history and values * Jewish religious practice * Curriculum planning and design * Jewish Music (instrument proficiency preferred) Education & Experience: * Rabbinic ordination or an advanced degree in Jewish studies/education is required * Teaching experience and/or experience working with students preferred * Ability to lead tfilot * Torah cantillation proficiency preferred * Song-leading and/or proficiency at a musical instrument preferred Salary Range & Benefits Package: The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000.
