This recruitment will be used to fill full-time Seasonal (May-September), Biological Sciences Research Technician 2 positions for the Human and Ecosystem Resilience and Sustainability Lab, at Oregon State University-Cascades. These positions will be located in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho.
These positions are in the Northwestern Bat Hub. This position is based in Bend, Oregon, however housing and fieldwork locations will be primarily in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho. The purpose of these seasonal positions is to assist with bat research and monitoring projects across the Pacific Northwest. Duration of seasonal employment is based on project needs; the position is expected to last 4 months from approximately mid-May to mid-September.
This position will serve as field technician or crew lead for one of three statewide bat acoustic monitoring endeavors. Fieldwork will take place across the entirety of Oregon, Washington, or Idaho. Field tasks include but are not limited to navigating remote and rugged terrain, assessing land ownership of survey sites, deploying bat acoustic monitors, hiking off-trail in rugged terrain, communicating with private landowners and agency partners regarding site access, and accurately recording site characteristics.
The BSRT2 provides technical support for field operations to meet project objectives. This includes data collection, implementing quality assurance during surveys (e.g., troubleshooting bat detector operation), and providing direction to technicians. All positions are subject to available funding.
Field staff will be provided with lodging throughout the season and a $20 per diem while conducting fieldwork.
Technicians will be hired as a student employee, BSRT1, or BSRT2, depending on experience.
Crew leads will be hired as either a BSRT2 or BSRT3, depending on experience.

What We Require
Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science) and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
