We are seeking an experienced Senior Server Engineer with 10 years of experience in managing and maintaining server infrastructure, with a strong focus on cloud-based technologies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in scripting, Windows Server administration, and cloud-based server environments. A bonus would be experienced with Linux server administration. They will be responsible for managing and maintaining the performance, security, and availability of our company's servers, both on-premises and in the cloud.

Essential Tasks

  • 10+ years of experience in server engineering and administration
  • Extensive experience with cloud-based server infrastructure, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Strong scripting skills with experience in one or more scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash
  • Experience with Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy
  • Bonus: Experience with Linux server administration, including command line interface and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of networking and storage technologies
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and experience implementing security measures
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud-based server infrastructures that are scalable, reliable, and secure
  • Implement automation and scripting solutions for server administration tasks
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks, including software updates, backups, and disaster recovery testing
  • Monitor server performance and proactively identify and address issues
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of server infrastructure with other systems and applications
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect server infrastructure from threats and vulnerabilities
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior server engineers
  • Document server infrastructure configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides

  • Thorough knowledge of Intranet and Internet Technologies, servers, networking and telephony.
  • Excellent understanding of network troubleshooting including TCP/IP, VLANs, and wireless.
  • Experience working with managed service providers.
  • Able to maintain the confidentiality of information and systems.
  • Knowledge of security, compliance requirements and practices.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk or a combination of the three for up to 10 hours a day.

  • Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, five days per week, or such other hours per day or hours per week as we determine are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as we determine are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Will be required to carry a cell phone at all times and expected to respond to urgent calls in a timely manner. This may require remote or occasional on-site support. Keyboarding skills and computer proficiency with software knowledge to include MS Office.
  • Able to execute on other duties as assigned.

  • The ability to work through stressful situations with either a co-worker or a customer.
  • May require overtime, weekend work, and overnight travel.
  • Much of the work shift is spent viewing a computer monitor and using a keyboard while entering problem description details into a case management system.

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions

The primary environment is characterized by ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment found in a typical office environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
  • 6 -8 years of system, database, or network administration experience
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network-related fields
  • Expert knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, AZURE, or equivalent
  • Expert knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Strong experience with scripting and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including working knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • ITIL V3/V4 Foundations are preferred but not required.
  • High level of proficiency with Windows OS (All Versions)
  • Thorough understanding of networking principles.
  • Excellent troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.
  • Professional communication and customer service skills both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to focus on short-term and long-term goals simultaneously.
  • Ability to raise issues proactively and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment
