Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute is currently seeking a highly motivated programmer/analyst to join the Research Support Data Center (RSDC) within the Department of Population Medicine (www. Populationmedicine.org). The Department of Population Medicine is the home of several large, complex multi-institutional research initiatives focused on using electronic health and administrative claims data to support major national public health activities including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Sentinel System (www.sentinelsystem.org) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vaccine Safety Datalink (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/ensuringsafety/monitoring/vsd/index.html). Our mission is to improve health care delivery and population health through research and education and SAS Programmer/Analysts play a critical role in delivering on that mission. In addition to supporting large national public health activities, we also work with other federal funders and private entities to bring our strong data assets and analytic skillset to solve the most pressing health problems facing health plan delivery systems.
Our SAS Programmer/Analyst team members are responsible for drafting and implementing data specifications to enhance our data infrastructure which is maintained in a common data model format utilized by the Heath Care Systems Research Network (https://www.hcsrn.org/en/Resources/VDW/VDWDataModel/VDW+Specifications.pdf). We have a focus on building linked data assets using vital statistics data and various registries. In addition to design and implementation of enhanced data infrastructure, our SAS Programmer/Analyst team members are responsible for routine data curation and management within the Department of Population Medicine including quality control and tracking of creation of customized datasets to support various research projects. Specifical statistical analytic skill is not required but highly desirable. While knowledge of SAS is of primary import, knowledge of additional database and statistical languages (e.g., SQL, R) is helpful. SAS Programmer/Analysts are frequently deployed to work closely with individual research teams but work under the general direction of the RSDC Operations Manager.
