About the Role

The UK Telecoms Lab (UKTL), announced in October 2022, will give the UK the cutting-edge technology to keep our telecommunications networks safe, accelerate the roll-out of 5G, and grow our brilliant telecoms sector by bringing in new entrants to diversify the supply chain market.

As a member of the UKTL Lab & Test Networks team, you'll be accountable for creation and management of data sets to bolster the Telecoms research and lab operations of UKTL. Working along side the Networks and Infrastructure, and the Evaluation team this person will be responsible for the creation of tools and the UKTL data capability to meet UKTL’s requirements.

As a trusted and independent national capability, the UKTL will interact at the intersection of standards bodies, such as 3GPP, the National Cyber Security Centre and the wider UK intelligence community, academia, Ofcom, as well as Communications Service Providers and telecommunication equipment vendors.

We are now working in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working. About You

To be successful, you will bring a wealth of experience of developing large and complex data systems - capturing, storing, and processing data and strong Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL workflows to the role. You'll have Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or SQL and experience with Microsoft technologies; including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Power Bi, Azure SQL and Azure DevOps. 

You'll also bring:

  • Experience with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering solutions
  • Experience of optimising data queries to ensure optimal performance
  • Implementation of Data Quality and Data Governance processes
  • Familiarity with data warehousing and data modelling concepts
  • Experience with Microsoft D365 Data (Dataverse) is an added advantage.

Governance, efficiency and effectiveness

  • Ensure compliance with appropriate internal and external governance including quality, health, safety, security and environmental legislation minimising risk to the business and enhancing NPL and UKTL’s reputation 

Change

  • Be an agent of change through visible ownership, clear and consistent communication and a focus on benefits realisation

Successful Applicants must be able to commute to the UKTL offices in Birmingham at least twice a week initially, increasing as required to support business activities.
