Overview

Please note this position is based in Phoenix, AZ. The Network Engineer IV is responsible for administering, implementing, and maintaining the core IT network infrastructure and providing day-to-day operational support and architectural oversight. This includes maintaining an environment for the delivery of all key line of business applications thru on-site, remote site (retail stores), and colocation. Coordinate and communicate planned upgrades, enhancements and maintenance for network infrastructure. Within the IT infrastructure domain, the Network Engineer IV requires additional mastery of network management, monitoring tools and methodologies, configuration backup, disaster recovery technologies and industry best practices. Practice an ITIL aligned approach to changes within the environment. Proficiency in related IT-centric business processes such as change management, systems analysis and quality assurance are also required.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Responsible for network architecture designs and documentation.
  • Provide operational support for the IT network infrastructure production environment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in all network related fields.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in IT tools including monitoring, backups, network management, and inventory management tools.
  • Configures the network to meet complex business and system requirements by leveraging recommended best practices, organizational governance, ensuring optimization of performance and minimizing risk.
  • Manages network security and permissions in alignment with the IT Security and Compliance Team.
  • Perform root cause analysis and following up on related action items.
  • Involved in the promotion of new infrastructure tools/network infrastructure through development, integration, and production environments.
  • Coordinate patches and upgrades as necessary for all network infrastructure.
  • Work with users and/or project teams to analyze business needs and develop requirements documentation and project plans.
  • Establish best practices with regards to network maintenance, configuration, development, testing, integrity, governance, etc.
  • Comply with change control, development life-cycle and release management policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and monitors configurations of network infrastructure and related systems to ensure end user success.
  • Respond to escalated issues, conducts troubleshooting/research and reports on workarounds and resolutions per ITIL-management best practices.
  • Drives standardization of retail store network deployments.
  • Drives standardization of network related configuration (IP addressing, configuration standards).
  • Serves as lead technical contact responsible for SLA delivery for all network infrastructure.
  • Acts as subject matter expert for escalations and troubleshooting of advanced network infrastructure and any related application issues.
  • Ongoing IT advisor responsible for technical direction involving all aspects of IT network Infrastructure.
  • Acts as backup to other network engineers (Network Engineers) as needed.
  • Intimately involved in new network environments, migrations, and implementations.
  • Responsible for delivery of IT metrics across all network systems (i.e.: monitoring, upgrades, etc.).
  • Policy and procedure enforcement under the best practices established within the IT Department.
  • Network Engineer IVs work with their counterparts to troubleshoot advanced infrastructure and application issues.
  • Network Engineer IVs perform advanced installation, configuration, administration and tuning of all network systems.
  • Network Engineer IVs serve in an advisory role on ongoing improvements and enhancements to IT infrastructure.
  • On-call unless a planned vacation or PTO time has been communicated with their supervisor.
  • Logs Incidents for any unplanned Outage reported by the Monitoring System.
  • Logs incident for Maintenance Task and/or Configuration Change being performed in the IT Environment.
  • Escalates issues that cannot be resolved to the appropriate contact after gathering required details/analysis.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Four year degree or equivalent additional experience in a related discipline (e.g., information technology, computer science, business, engineering).
  • Minimum 8+ years of design, implementation, and maintenance for a complex network environment.
  • Minimum 3+ years with a focus on network architecture and design.
  • Retail environment experience is preferred but not required.

Technical Skills: 

  • Adept at change management and release management policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
  • Knowledge of ITIL V3 preferred.
  • Implementation, configuration and management of most of the following technologies:
  • Cisco Nexus and IOSXE
  • Palo Alto Firewalls.
  • Cisco Meraki equipment (MX, MS, MR)
  • Load Balancers (F5, CA, Azure load balancers)
  • Azure Network resources (VNet, NSG, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway)
  • Wireless fundamentals (RF, RSS, Ekahau equipment)
  • Network Management tools (Solarwinds, LogicMonitor, DataDog)
  • Voice Fundamentals (SIP, CUBE, SBC, CUCM)
  • Advanced routing protocol experience required (OSPF and BGP).
  • Network failover design (Remote Site and DR Sites) experience required.
  • Experience with hypervisors including VMWare and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.

Communication Skills: 

  • Ability to competently understand, speak, read and write English.
  • Ability to produce professional written communication including project submittals, complex visios and knowledgebase articles.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, project steering committees and customers.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal communications skills.
