The Opportunity:

This position performs activities associated with the care, welfare, and husbandry of animals maintained at the animal care facilities.

Responsibilities:

New hires will be trained to work on both sides of cagewash areas which includes preparing cages and components for washing and setting up cages and components for autoclaving. Cycles are verified for each piece of equipment and recorded by the employee. Employee would learn and follow federal, state, and university guidelines and policies on animal welfare.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience; Or certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician or above by the Animal Association for Laboratory Animal Science; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with animals.
  • Ability to multi-task and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent observational skills.
  • Typing and computer skills with Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Associate degree in animal science or veterinary technology.
  • AALAS certification.
  • Two or more years of job-related experience in a lab animal facility.
  • Certified veterinary technician is also desirable.
