Technical SETA Big Data Engineer

Key Role: 

Support the federal health research and development (R&D) organization, Advanced Research Projects Agency – Health (ARPA-H), as a Technical Science, Engineering, and Technology Adviser (SETA) for programs related to big data architecture and engineering. Support the development of secure collection methods for large datasets of healthcare and insurance payment data and processing them through data pipelines under the leadership of a project manager. Provide technical guidance to external teams and work on large-scale data projects. Ensure robust and scalable data solutions are implemented, with a focus on security and compliance. Analyze scientific and technical data with respect to novelty, rigor, and robustness. Evaluate and advise on cloud-based technologies and architectures. Build and maintain detailed program plans under the leadership of a project manager. Assist with writing and reviewinf technical documents and solicitations.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of experience as a data architect, cloud solutions architect, or data security analyst and engineer
  • Experience with cloud-based large data,, including Google BigQuery, and Amazon Redshift and big data technologies, including Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka
  • Experience with security architecture, encryption, red teaming, and data transfer security
  • Knowledge of cloud automation and orchestration tools and cloud cost management and optimization strategies
  • Ability to implement and manage data warehousing solutions, data lakes, and ETL processes in a cloud environment at a terabyte or petabyte scale
  • Ability to leverage cloud analytics tools and services for insights from large datasets
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Experience with healthcare technologies, including HL7, FHIR, EDI, or X12 a plus
  • Experience with ARPA, including DARPA, IARPA, or ARPA-E
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, NIST, CMMC, or similar regulations and standards a plus
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment
  • Ability to display intellectual curiosity and interest in expanding expertise to new scientific proficiency to brainstorm with other colleagues to find alternative solutions to scientific and technical problems
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines quickly and develop and convey meaningful insights, significant contributions, and recommendations to address complex client issues
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal and communication skills
  • Possession of excellent data gathering, analytical, problem-solving, and client service skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; Master’s degree or PhD degree a plus

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $58,400.00 to $133,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
