We are currently seeking full-time CEI Roadway Inspectors to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Raleigh and the surrounding areas (Durham, Chapel Hill, Sanford, Benson, Smithfield, Goldsboro, Wake Forest, Louisburg, Henderson, etc). Inspectors can reside anywhere within an hour of the project site and will have access to a company vehicle to report directly to the site.

What You Will Do:

As a CEI Roadway Inspector, you will perform technical duties associated with the oversight, administration, and inspection of transportation projects, including roadway, bridge, rail, pedestrian, port, and /or aviation, to determine the contractor's compliance with the contract, plans, and specifications. You are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and to various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites, and heavy equipment, and may travel/work extended hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Responsibilities can include:

  • Observe and inspect various contractor's operations including clearing and grubbing, earthmoving, paving, concrete pavement, bridge construction, pipe installation, traffic control, pavement marking, etc
  • Work is subject to review by higher-level technical and professional staff
  • Materials sampling and testing
  • Prepare material reports and daily diaries
  • Perform a variety of calculations, computations, and documentation associated with the project inspection and material testing
  • Inspect erosion control devices for plan and permit compliance
  • Verify line and grade with survey equipment
  • Prepare field books for contractor payment documentation
  • Attend meetings and interact with third-party construction personnel
  • Perform DBE and EEO compliance surveys

Pay rate is based on the level of experience. Additional incentives are available for existing applicable certifications.

Who You Are:

  • You have ONE of the following:
  • High school diploma/GED required and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
  • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience
  • You have at least TWO of the following NCDOT-based certifications:
  • NCDOT QMS Roadway Certification
  • NCDOT Conventional Density Certification
  • NCDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification
  • NCDOT Erosion Control Level II
  • NCDOT Nuclear Gauge Certification
  • You have strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You have the ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
  • You have good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience.
