Human Resources Partner - Clackamas, OR

The Human Resources Partner (HRP), located at one of our largest animal hospitals in the Portland, Oregon area, will report directly to the Director of Human Resources for the Western Division. The HRP functions as a key member of a highly collaborative hospital leadership team, supporting over 100 associates. Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that our workforce is treated fairly and reasonably at all times by helping employees to resolve conflicts and dealing with a myriad of complex personnel management situations;
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including FMLA, OFLA, PDL, ADA;
  • Participate in the hiring process for all positions within the Hospital, with the support of dedicated doctor and tech recruiters;
  • Conduct new hire employee orientation and ensure the collection of all necessary employment documentation;
  • Complete employee onboarding to ensure that each employee feels welcome and has a positive employment experience;
  • Conduct workplace investigations;
  • Respond to associate concerns to ensure that every member of the team feels “heard” and well treated;
  • Serve as Human Resources Point of Contact for all Associate Relations issues;
  • Partner with hospital leadership with respect to corrective action and separations;
  • Assist in developing the team for bench strength and succession planning;
  • Ensure that the team is well cast, with the right talent in the right roles;
  • Attend unemployment hearings as necessary;
  • Guide Hospital Leaders on best practices, as well as hospital guidelines and company policies;
  • Ensure that associates have a strong understanding of total rewards enhancements and healthcare eligibility;
  • Report all Worker’s Compensation claims and assist with safety compliance;
  • Complete hospital business processes in the company’s HRIS system (Workday);
  • Support training and development of hospital team, including leadership training for hospital teams;
  • Act as a key liaison with VCA’s Corporate Headquarters;
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining business networks; and participating in professional organizations;
  • Demonstrate ability to understand how the hospital operates and partner with Director of Human Resources or other HR team members to implement solutions;
  • Facilitate completion of performance reviews in collaboration with the hospital’s leadership team;
  • Support the Company’s vision, mission, values, culture and strategy.

The Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in dealing with complex employee relations issues
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent experience or certification in Human Resources
  • Outstanding oral and written communications,
  • On-the-job experience with writing position statements and conducting workplace investigations.
  • Strong proficiency with leave administration and the “interactive process.”
  • Demonstrated competence in accurately and successfully advising managers on complex HR matters.
  • Extraordinary customer service skills.

Physical demands:

  • The Human Resources Partner is part of a dynamic Human Resources and Hospital Leadership team in a large animal hospitals. Each day is filled with constant challenges and an intense pace.
  • Although providing a healthy work/life balance for our team is very important, there are times when the hours are long and irregular. Dedication and motivation are essential.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Must be able to walk, reach, stand, and balance.
  • Must be free from or comfortably able to control animal allergies.
  • Must be able to see, hear, and speak clearly and articulately.
  • Occasionally, local driving trips and air
