Summary

The Senior Market Intelligence Analyst supports the market intelligence manager in meeting the growing demand for sophisticated market research and competitive intelligence; including managing project intake and assignment allocation, scoping projects, and coordinating and negotiating deadlines.

The incumbent performs in-depth research on clients, practices and industry sectors, and law firm competitors to support Sidley’s marketing, business development, and practice development efforts. The incumbent leverages internal and external resources to provide information that helps address the opportunities faced by practice area teams, client teams, individual attorneys and marketing management. The incumbent works closely with the functional areas of the Marketing department, as well as Strategic Planning, Library and Research Services, Knowledge Management (Experience), and other departments. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce in-depth industry sector reports analyzing emerging trends, key drivers/issues, regulatory challenges, and opportunities for legal work.
  • Provide proactive competitor intelligence and benchmarking for law firms.
  • Monitor and communicate developments in the legal industry that have an impact on firm business.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of clients and prospects to support client meetings, prepare for pitches and respond to RFPs, as well as provide insights to support practice and business development projects.
  • Engage with business development leaders to suggest strategies for proactively incorporating internal and external research and analysis into business development efforts.
  • Prepare research deliverables with emphasis on summarizing data and findings and translating research into actionable insights and recommendations to assess growth opportunities. 
  • Develop subject matter expertise with regard to the scope and nature of the market research, competitive intelligence and available internal data.
  • Execute project assignments and work with the market intelligence manager and other Marketing leaders to develop standard reporting deliverables and best practices.
  • Provide support to the market intelligence manager for internal and third party projects including defining requirements, building relationships with and evaluating vendors, tracking and reporting progress, and assessing and delivering results.
  • Assist with the onboarding and integration of analysts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting research and analysis activities in support of business development, business operations or in an academic setting
  • Knowledge of various external research tools such as Lexis, Westlaw, S&P Capital IQ, Thomson Monitor Suite, PitchBook, Preqin, and other resources
  • Intermediate skills with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint to synthesize and present data and findings
  • Demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities 

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree, such as a JD, MBA or MLS, or SCIP certification or training in business/competitive intelligence or analytics
  • Law firm and/or professional services experience
  • Business research project experience
