Meet the team:

Dexcom’s Legal Team is growing and we are looking for a motivated attorney to join our Legal Team to support our continued growth in Japan. This role will report to our Director, Legal Counsel and may be positioned in Dexcom’s Tokyo office location, but a remote/hybrid arrangement may also be available. The candidate will work with a team of motivated and passionate attorneys and business partners across different offices and coordinate daily with local business leaders to support our commercial, marketing, and legal process initiatives in Japan.

Where you come in:

  • Advise Dexcom’s business partners on strategic initiatives, commercial transactions and contracts, business development, sales, distribution and operations, and reimbursement and market access.
  • Advise Dexcom’s business partners on marketing law compliance.
  • Provide ongoing legal advice on laws, regulations and guidelines related to medical device distribution and sales, marketing, privacy, clinical research, medical affairs, business development, and commercialization of products and services sold, marketed, or distributed in Japan.
  • Advise on continuing process improvements and implementation of Dexcom’s compliance program initiatives and work closely with Dexcom’s Compliance and Regulatory teams to implement new regulatory frameworks and investigate and address compliance risks.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies when requested and assist in compliance reviews, audits, and investigations.
  • Participate in Legal Department management, including operations, budgets, and policies.
  • Effectively manage outside vendors and coordinate efforts across multiple internal teams.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on industry-best legal standards for marketing, intellectual property, licensing, contracts, etc.
  • Frequent communication and collaboration with supervisor and HQ Legal colleagues.
  • Understanding, support, and enforcement of Legal guidelines and procedures.
  • Be organized, productive and consistent in meeting fast-paced activity and high quality standards.
  • Liaise with stakeholders by providing information and regular updates as to the status of their legal matter via email, phone, and/or Zoom.
  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of Japan’s laws, regulations, cultures, and procedures related to medical devices and life sciences industry.

  • Deep knowledge of healthcare compliance laws in Japan.
  • Experience and understanding of medical device advertising laws in Japan.
  • Ability to manage outside counsel relationships.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating agreements.
  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of a wide range of projects.
  • Ability to independently create legal documents and work with tracked changes and version control in documents.
  • Ability to manage and supervise company business constituencies.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative.
  • Excellent decision-making and communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Native Japanese fluency for all communication.
  • Strong English writing, speaking, editing, negotiation, and presentation skills are a must.
  • Ability to think strategically and to formulate creative and practical legal business solutions is critical.
  • Must be capable of working at a high professional level both independently and collaboratively, as part of a team.
  • Must possess comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to use contract management systems.
  • Ability to perform remote work professionally, confidentially, efficiently, and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform work at Dexcom’s Tokyo office location as needed.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Law degree.
  • At least 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in law firm and/or in-house.
