Cochlear has an opportunity for a Principal Integration & Verification Engineer, Embedded Software based in our Sydney office. In this role, the successful Principal Integration & Verification Engineer, Embedded Software will contribute to definition and implementation of strategies for efficient and automated embedded Software Integration & Verification that ensures releases are safe and effective for use, verified according to requirements and stress/smoke tested as part of a continuous integration and deployment cycle.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, mentor and grow I&V engineers in ES towards efficient test driven- and platform based- development strategies with a high degree of automation and use of state-of-the-art embedded SW test tools, framework and methodologies.
  • Coordinate I&V activities and staff allocations according to release schedules and priorities and establish and manage efficient processes for test case development, execution, reporting, error tracking and resolution.
  • Ensuring traceability of requirements to test cases and verification reports as required per regulatory standards for medical devices.
  • Adopt progression and regression concepts to maintain software quality throughout the development cycle while enhancing verification efficiency.
  • Champion “shift left” thinking to ensure SW components/units are properly stress and performance tested before integration in ES releases and to ensure ES releases are pre-verified and stress-tested before system V&V
  • Assist I&V engineers in assessing verification failures or test (setup) issues for impact and severity on effectiveness and safety of the embedded software functionality and drive consultation with component leads (in feature teams) to escalate important issues or confirm assessments.

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Required Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electronic, Electrical, digital design or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years of experience in embedded software testing activities in a highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated ability for raising the bar for test efficiency through automation and state-of-the-art test methodology processes and competencies.
  • Solid understanding of different levels of testing (unit, integration, regression, smoke/stress- testing etc)
  • Solid experience on Hardware and Software in the Loop testing and supporting frameworks like TeamCity or similar.
  • Experience with test driven (embedded) SW development processes and tools.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD and supporting frameworks and tools like Perforce, TeamCity, Bamboo, Git, BitBucket, Jira etc.
  • Extensive experience on Test scripting for test automation and execution (Bash, JavaScript, Perl, PowerShell, Python, …)
  • Experience in managing engineering teams.
  • Capable of defining and executing processes and organizational strategies in a product development context.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Agile development practices
  • Software/Firmware Programming experience (C/C++, Python, etc).
