Position Title: Deputy Director/Senior Cyber Security Engineer

Salary Range: $130,000 - $165,000

Job Description:

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate Managerial opening for a Deputy Director/Senior Cyber Security Engineer in its Information Technology Department. In this position, working closely with the Director of Information Technology and the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), the successful candidate will work with cross-functional teams, including IT, network engineering, and cybersecurity, to design, implement and maintain security solutions that safeguard our network infrastructure and computer systems. The candidate will be responsible for the compliance of IT systems, applications and networks with security policies and information protection strategies; develop, publish, and maintain Agency information security policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines; provide technical guidance and training to information "owners," agency IT teams, and design and implement programs for user awareness, and security compliance monitoring. The candidate will analyze potential security risks or breaches that have occurred and implement widely accepted and automated technologies to mitigate these risks/breaches and harden security systems for effective defense. The candidate will be responsible for identifying vulnerabilities and potential threats, conducting risk assessments, and developing and implementing security solutions to mitigate risks.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee Cyber Security Governance and Controls.
  • Supervise a Cyber Security Analyst and the Cisco Infrastructure Team.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and update agency information security strategy that will increase the Agency’s overall information security posture. 
  • Manage the daily use and administration of strategic cyber risk and long-term threat intelligence products. 
  • Educate and train staff on security best practices.
  • Perform security assessments.
  • Research security enhancements and make recommendations to management.
  • Lead in developing communications for end users and stakeholders around cyber security issues.
  • Develop and implement a user cybersecurity awareness and training program.
  • Monitors threat intelligence feeds to identify a range of threats, including indicators of compromise and advanced persistent threats (APTs).
  • Manage cyber security private/public and Federal/City relationships; and manage special cyber security projects, as assigned.
  • Work with the security team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities.
  • Fix detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard.
  • Stay up to date on information technology trends and cyber security standards.
  • Perform other related and necessary tasks as needed.

In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, all candidates must possess the following: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; and
  2. At least two (2) years' experience administering Information Security Software and Controls; and
  3. At least two (2) years' experience analyzing Security System Logs, Security Tools, and Data; and
  4. At least two (2) years' experience creating, modifying, and updating Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).

Preferred Requirements/Skills:

  • Must communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and investigative skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy and security assessments.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to independently learn and master new skills and subject matters.
  • Current knowledge of diverse products and services related to cyber security and IT organization.
  • Related experience in Information Technology or Information Security.
  • Security Certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), GIAC Security Essentials Certifications, GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst, Global Information Assurance Certification.
  • Master’s degree in a related area.

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current position and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum qualifications of the position. 
  • Looking for candidates that could commit to one (1) year to the hiring Unit. 
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. 

Minimum Qualification Requirements: 

  1. 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience using information technology in computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, database administration, planning of data/information processing, user services, or area networks, at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative, or supervisory capacity in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties.
  2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s department of education or recognized accrediting organization and eight years of experience as described in "1" above, including the 18 months of experience in an executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity as described in “1” above.

  • Monday - Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
