Your focus

An Application Scientist is required for the Animal Nutrition customer service laboratory in Shanghai, China. This role will be involved in establishing current and future in-feed enzyme assays. The Scientist must have a depth knowledge of molecular biology to handle microbiology and molecular biological analysis including End-Point PCR and qPCR analysis related to Gut health services and ensuring good interactions with existing and future laboratory teams in other countries who are serving a global business. The Scientist will also be involved in customer services associated with the measurement of components in key feed raw materials by NIT or NIR. You will be required to answer customer questions relating to laboratory analysis after liaison with the local Technical Services Manager and/or Business Manager. You will also potentially need to liaise with third party laboratories for certain analyses on an as needed basis. You will be expected to maintain all records and report out results in a highly organized and professional way to provide service differentiation versus competitors. Should be well versed with the analytical techniques like HPLC, GC, Ion Exchange Chromatography etc.

Job Requirements

How you will contribute and lead

  • Interact with the IFF Animal Nutrition laboratory service teams in other countries (e.g. India, Denmark, Brazil) to learn, understand and practice routine in-feed enzyme assays and be involved in regular ring testing with these other laboratories to ensure consistent reporting of results.
  • Must have a depth knowledge of molecular biology to handle microbiology and molecular biological analysis including End-Point PCR and PCR analysis related to Gut health services and ensuring good interactions with existing and future laboratory teams in other countries who are serving a global business.
  • Interact with the IFF Animal Nutrition laboratory service teams in other countries to analyze components of key feed raw materials by NIT e.g. Foss Infratec 1241 (or by NIR) and establish a database of information for internal projects, or to provide customer support.
  • Take responsibility for accurate reporting of all customer service results and answer any related questions after liaising with the local Technical Services Manager and/or Business Manager for IFF Animal Nutrition.
  • Liaise with third party laboratory service suppliers to outsource certain analyses, when appropriate
  • Ensure timely completion of all analyses maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Analyze all data generated and interpret the results.
  • Perform quality control (QC) checking of assays and data on a routine basis.
  • Generate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for routinely used assays.
  • As per the requirement, manage multiple projects at any given time.
  • Follow and track the status for ongoing and future projects.
  • Maintain records for all assigned projects, write associated reports and maintain archiving.
  • Perform additional tasks and provide additional laboratory services as required after appropriate training.
  • Assess competitor product offerings on an as needed basis to support differentiation argumentations.
  • Standardise/Develop new method to support the product to increase the customer base.
  • Calibrate/Maintain all critical equipment on regularly to maintain its performance. 
  • Maintain the Stocks of the chemicals and consumables. 

What you will need to be successful

  • M.Sc in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology or Molecular biology with 9+ years of experience.
  • Should have basic idea of a food / Feed laboratory and good knowledge on Enzyme application.
  • Independent working ability and excellent interpersonal skills both internally and externally.
  • Should have good knowledge on analytical technics like HPLC, Gas Chromatograph, Ion Chromatograh etc.
