Vice President, Chief Medical Officer for Memorial Hospital Belleville & Memorial Hospital Shiloh 

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for ensuring clinical quality and efficiencies to provide highly reliable, evidence-based patient care to the communities served by Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial Hospital Shiloh. The CMO will engage medical staff members, administrative and nursing leaders, and other key stakeholders to foster an environment of collaboration and communication to ensure the highest quality patient care delivery. He/she will lead the implementation of clinical strategies and removal of any barriers in care delivery. Additionally, the CMO will ensure strong working relationships among contracted, affiliated, and private physician groups that facilitate strong care coordination. He/she will drive clinical data measurement, analysis, and dissemination. This position will provide leadership that allows physicians, advanced practice practitioners and other clinicians to improve patient outcomes by leveraging best practices and continuous improvement with uncompromising quality, standards and results. In addition, the CMO will manage hospital-based physician contracts. The CMO will maintain a strong presence on both the Belleville and Shiloh campuses, and recognize and support their unique differences.

Overview

Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children’s at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been designated as a Magnet®-recognized organization for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care.

Role Purpose

Plans, coordinates, and oversees the medical affairs of a hospital(s) to ensure the quality and effectiveness of clinical care. Works to align medical staff goals with those of the system. Ensures medical staff comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Provides physician leadership and takes responsibility to improve quality of patient care provided by the medical staff. Holds medical staff accountable for behavioral and performance standards and expectations. Includes medical staff in discussions of industry trends and works to align the medical staff with the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Priorities of the hospital.

Works collaboratively with the BJC Center of Clinical Excellence, administrative leadership, and medical staff leadership to achieve objectives Creates an environment of trust and openness by seeking regular feedback and input. Proactively addresses conflict and process disconnects to identify causes and assists in finding solutions to problems. Advocates for medical staff needs.

Oversees administration and management of various programs and initiatives. Assists in implementing and evaluating programs and initiatives designed to meet hospital and department objectives and goals.

Sponsors and implements initiatives to achieve perpetual readiness with The Joint Commission standards and consistency in all aspects of the hospital and department?s compliance with regulatory standards.
