About the Opportunity

Northeastern University College of Professional Studies (CPS) is seeking a Director of CPS Supplemental Academic Services (SAS). CPS SAS is a strategically important support unit that provides supplemental skill support and development to enhance the student learning experience and promote student success.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Director will be responsible for the successful design, development and delivery of CPS SAS strategy and will oversee programmatic, administrative, and operational aspects of the CPS SAS office. The Director will evaluate current programs and practices and manage the continued growth, expansion, and visibility of CPS SAS. The Director will spearhead the streamlining of processes and procedures and the coordination of efforts within a staff of full and part-time employees, co-ops, interns, and student employees. The Director will actively explore opportunities to further develop connections with other units within CPS and across the University. Continuous unit assessment, quality improvement of CPS SAS programs and services, and creative outreach geared towards student success are key components of this position.

35% Leadership / Operational Management

  • Provides leadership of current and future CPS SAS programs and services.
  • Provides operational leadership of the CPS SAS and collaborates with CPS faculty and on various academic initiatives.
  • Builds a strong team focused on outstanding customer service, efficient operations, effective tutoring, and commitment to excellence.
  • Additional SAS leadership duties as assigned by Associate Dean

35% Program Development

  • Develops services that provide faculty and staff with professional development opportunities in supplemental skills and academic supports for students.
  • Develops systems and processes to maximize efficiency and provide superior service to students.

10% Strategic Direction

  • Develops long-range plan for CPS SAS considering latest research and best practice in student support services.
  • Researches and develops sound practices and procedures for effective delivery of comprehensive academic student support and tutoring services.
  • Monitors operations and program effectiveness and implements new strategies focused on continuous improvement in keeping with the philosophy and policies of CPS.

10% Marketing

  • Works in collaboration with CPS Marcomm and academic units to communicate services to students and faculty.
  • Promotes CPS SAS, provides outreach to faculty, staff, and external departments and constituencies.

10% Cross College Collaboration

  • Works closely with deans, assistant deans, directors, advisors, coordinators, staff, and faculty within CPS and across the university and works collaboratively with other departments across the University, such as the Office of Global Services, and the Writing Center.
  • Builds relationships with and mediates among key stakeholders in unit, across units, and across the university.
  • Manage relationship with Knack, Wyzant, and any other internal or external tutoring services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, student services, teaching, or a related field required.
  • 5-7 years professional experience with at least 3 years of administrative experience with increasing responsibilities in a large, complex unit within a higher education institution.
  • Proficiency in another language preferred in addition to strong command of English. Skills required include:
  • Effective administrative, supervisory, and organizational skills.
  • Project and time management, including superior communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to direct and integrate all aspects of a project or program, ensuring that work progresses toward achieving goals and objectives on time and on budget.
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of student services and tutoring programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to facilitate and implement change.
  • Project management experience and a demonstrated ability to manage rapidly evolving priorities.
  • Proven record of effective and results-driven problem solving and decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to diverse constituencies.
  • Highly effective and organized presenter and meeting facilitator.
  • Strong evidence of working successfully with full-time and adjunct faculty as well as diverse staff and students.
  • Understanding of, and ability to use technologies, systems, and tools common in higher education (e.g., Banner, Salesforce, social media platforms).
  • Deep understanding of campus climate within higher education and how to take actions that satisfy diverse interests while achieving programmatic and unit goals.
  • Strong advocate and promoter.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain teams; excellent team-member whether as lead or member.
  • Commitment to diversity in the work environment.
