Zen-Noh Grain Corporation (ZGC) was formed in 1979 to accomplish the goal of establishing a safe and stable supply of U.S. corn, milo, soybeans, and other U.S. food supplies. ZGC is a U.S. subsidiary of ZEN-NOH, the largest agricultural cooperative association in Japan. We operate a grain and oilseed export terminal in Convent, Louisiana, which is the highest-handle grain export terminal in the U.S. In recent years, we have expanded our grain origination and export footprint with joint ventures in Brazil, Canada and Hong Kong. In addition to grain trading, we operate a forage processing and export business headquartered in Washington.

This job is a key member of the finance team providing financial and quantitative leadership on the company’s most important strategic decisions. Responsibilities performed are to develop and guide complex business cases for capital projects that link into organizational strategies and to evolve the organization’s reporting capabilities to better serve business units. Additionally, this role will be an active member of the finance team, partner with business unit leadership provide central guidance on key issues, topics, external viewpoints/benchmarks as well as key areas for opportunity for the broader finance team to consider in the overall financial management of the firm. This role will approach responsibilities with a global perspective.

Here’s what you’ll need to be considered:

In this job, you will:

  • Execute enterprise strategy, in partnership with the CEO and Business Unit leaders, to optimize investments.
  • Formulate and implement a strategic plan(s) that guides the organization’s businesses while ensuring support of the overall organization strategic direction.
  • Identify key metrics (e.g. KPIs) to drive business performance, as well as new metrics to drive strategic priorities; enhance scenario planning analysis and benchmarking capabilities.
  • Partner closely with and leverage the Accounting team for key information points, including historical reporting and data collection. This may include activities related to cost accounting, margin reporting, analysis of data and management reports, activity based costing or cost allocation to products and customers, management reports generation, etc.
  • Create and drive value within businesses (e.g. stretch targets), measured by profit improvement, lower cost, enhanced operational performance and, ultimately, return on investment. Focus management on most critical risks and opportunities.
  • Provide financial and change leadership by actively participating in high level business strategy planning; providing necessary support to accomplish plans/strategy.
  • Challenge all aspects of the business to identify and capture efficiencies and process improvement opportunities.
  • Partner closely with department, division and company leadership to enhance connectivity and communication, and ensure opportunities identified and strategies are accomplished.
  • Maintain awareness of both the external and internal best practices, learning and standards; translate and share across business.
  • Oversee staffing and job development activities (hiring, training, employee performance management, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, etc.); lead, mentor and empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals, provide performance expectations that align with company goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Here’s what you’ll need to be considered:

Education

Required – Bachelor’s Degree in field related to work being performed OR equivalent education, training and work experience.

Preferred – Master’s Degree in field related to work being performed.

Experience

Required - 10 years' progressively responsible experience in a leadership role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of developing long term strategic plans.
  • Diverse knowledge of company, business, brand, and product; understanding of the company and its position in the market/industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical methodology and predictive modeling technique, economics, budgeting, and accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in English language.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills, with ability to remain flexible to changing priorities.
  • Effective management, leadership and team building skills.
  • Ability to clearly present ideas and concepts while influencing outcomes.
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision and business case including defending positions on controversial topics, adapt style to continuously seek ‘win-win’ solutions.
  • Ability to be successful and lead others to be successful in a complex environment with multiple decision makers.
  • Ability to fully analyze problems and provide resolutions at both strategic and functional levels.
  • Ability to influence and drive behaviors, results or agenda needed by the business.
  • Ability to remain up to date on industry trends, including ability to analyze and articulate trends.
  • Ability to travel internationally.

Physical Demands & Requirements

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Environmental Conditions

The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside where there are limited extremes to heat and/or cold; moderate noise; a normal office environment.

Travel required, up to 20% including overseas (e.g. Japan, Brazil, and other destinations primarily in South America).
