Overview

Engineers in the Individual Investors group at T. Rowe Price are playing a key role in helping build the future of financial services, working hand-in-hand with business partners to build client experiences that are changing the way people invest. We want technologists with a new perspective who are passionate about solving business, data and technical challenges. You will build groundbreaking, next-generation applications for n-tier cloud architectures. You’ll be involved, hands-on, through the entire development cycle. And you’ll redefine the way our traders, portfolio managers and analysts serve our clients.

We are working to develop the firm's next generation data distribution platform, with the aim to seamlessly deliver real-time and on-demand investments data to a global network of distributed trading and research platforms. We are employing new paradigms such as cloud computing, lightweight microservices, and distributed and non-relational databases to deliver elastically scalable, globally distributed and highly resilient software services.

This is a hands-on, full development lifecycle role which provides an opportunity to tackle sophisticated business, logic, data and technical challenges. Role summary and job responsibilities

  • Manages a development team to deliver projects which achieve target outcomes
  • You'll demonstrates exceptional hands-on capability to drive components to delivery
  • Apply people management skills to coach, mentor and develop engineers on the team
  • You'll assume ownership over the quality, TCO, maintainability and security of the solutions built by our team
  • Help design specific elements of the GTS Technical strategy and drive its execution within your domain of responsibility.
  • You'll identify non-obvious relationships and anomalies often overlooked by others
  • Balance strategic and pragmatic concerns when solving problems
  • You'll seek to detects and overcome issues before the broader team is aware of them
  • Provide timely feedback and coaching to individuals and teams using data to reinforce learning
  • You'll be accountable for the developing and mentoring of direct reports
  • Responsible for recruitment and performance management of associates
  • Overcome differences of opinion and drive team alignment around a specific goal or solution
  • Owns technical debt across their development team

Business knowledge

  • You demonstrate a deep knowledge of products/flows within supported businesses
  • Articulate broader business concerns and/or regulatory landscape, including key risks and controls (e.g., GDPR, MIFID, SOX)
  • You make decisions that are cognizant of the firm’s broader business strategy

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or another related discipline and 10+ years of progressive Object Oriented development experience (Java preferred)
  • Experience building containerized applications and deploying to public or private clouds, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or similar providers.
  • Experience with automated delivery pipelines, agile delivery and test-driven development
  • In-depth experience with server-side frameworks such as Spring Boot and Tomcat
  • In-depth knowledge of software design patterns
  • In-depth RDBMS development experience (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Solid understanding of Spark, Redshift, Apache Ni-Fi helpful
  • Solid understanding of cloud native architectures (AWS, etc.) for containerized microservices
  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced, Agile team environment 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain a close working relationship with quantitative researchers, traders and senior business leaders
  • Confident communicator; able to argue a point concisely and deal positively with conflicting views
  • Passion for learning & results oriented
  • A solid understanding of financial markets and instruments is a plus
  • Current with many best-of-breed technologies
  • Shows a commitment to quality by implementing suitable software using unit/integration and acceptance testing at the time of feature development
  • Debugs large components with limited assistance and assists other engineers with debugging
  • At some levels, leads code reviews and actively participates in providing feedback on others’ designs/code
  • Performs as a specialist in one or more parts of the software lifecycle (e.g., coding, testing, deployment). Coordinates significant pieces of development within the development lifecycle
  • Designs and develops practical APIs and abstractions.
  • Owns technical debt in their own software

FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for remote work up to three days a week.
