The Environment Technical Professional Organization at AtkinsRéalis is dedicated to responding to the changing needs of our clients and communities. We are committed to technical excellence and provide solution-driven environmental services to assist clients in planning, managing, and conducting their projects. Our growing organization is seeking like-minded individuals to join our Site Assessment and Remediation team in BC, and we are looking for a Senior Environmental Project Engineer or Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team. We have offices in Victoria, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Burnaby, Kelowna, Trail, Nelson, and Cranbrook as well as locations in Northern BC. 

You will work on a variety of projects for various clients across Canada but primarily in BC. The ideal candidate is an industry professional that has proven project experience and the long-term drive, ambition and potential to develop and progress within our organization. Individuals who join our team can expect to work closely with other professionals in a wide variety of fields, collaborating across regions and groups to provide high-quality technical solutions for our clients. The successful candidate will bring leadership skills and provide senior level technical direction and mentoring of staff, strong client management skills and the ability to collaborate with others across the Environment Practice. They will provide leadership through mentorship and supporting the technical development of staff to support project execution. 

Your role within the team: 

  • Provide technical direction and project management of fundamental tasks related to environmental projects (e.g., soil and groundwater investigation), remediation scopes of work and report preparation. 
  • Communicate with and provide mentorship to junior staff. 
  • Oversee contractors and field-staff to ensure the project is delivered as per pre-defined specifications. 
  • Review and evaluate large amounts of field collected data to support data gap analyses and selection of remedial options. 
  • Provide technical expertise for contaminated site investigation, remediation and reclamation programs. 
  • Interpret findings and prepare and review technical reports. 
  • Interact with clients and provide verbal and written project updates. 
  • Track budgets and identify and communicate scope changes in a timely manner. 
  • Supervise and mentor staff involved in carrying out field programs; ensure project requirements are communicated and health and safety protocols are followed. 
  • Promote a positive Health and Safety culture. 
  • Participate in business development activities and maintaining client relationships.

The ideal candidate: 

  • Degree from a program with relevant subject matter in the field of Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Geology, or Biology. 
  • Eligibility for professional designation and an interest in obtaining CSAP designation within the next 5 years would be considered an asset. 
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience encompassing project coordination and project management and with emphasis in the areas of contaminated site assessment, remediation and reclamation. 
  • Demonstrated experience in activities related to environmental site assessment and remediation such as Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) including groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, various drilling techniques, soil sample collection and logging, soil vapour sampling, remedial excavations, reclamation, spill response and quality assurance / quality control protocols. 
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and guidelines of the Environment Management Act and specifically the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation under the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy. 
  • The ability to work well in a team environment. 
  • Strong communication skills and experience in public facing roles such as responding to questions and interacting with the public on large-scale development or environmental projects. 
  • Experience managing contractors and working closely with clients on large, multi-year projects. 
  • Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language. 
  • Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical protocols. 
  • Experience in routine statistical analysis would be an asset. 
  • Candidates may need a Valid Class 5 Full driver’s license. 

Compensation Range:

Expected compensation for this role is between $125,000 - $133,000. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
