Description
The Postdoctoral Scientist will serve as an integral member of a research team focused on disease resistance gene discovery and characterization in major crops. This role will involve conducting novel research activities to discover resistance genes and understand host-pathogen interactions. This is a hands-on role that will require management of technical projects, as well as coordination with both molecular and computational biologists to accomplish objectives. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong technical background, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities - What You'll Do:
- Explore diverse computational and experimental approaches to identify and characterize novel resistance genes against major crop diseases.
- Provide scientific expertise and leadership to projects, working with team members to implement and achieve project goals.
- Communicate project progress and recommendations. Summarize plans and progress in written reports and oral presentations.
- Remain current on new technologies through relevant literature and participation in professional meetings.
Qualifications
Educational Qualifications:
Candidates should have PhD in computational biology, plant molecular pathology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline. Experience in computational biology is required.
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Experience in computational biology, including computational prediction and analysis of protein structures and protein-protein interaction, preferably including AlphaFold2.
- Demonstration of being a creative and motivated scientist, with understanding of host-pathogen interactions preferred.
- Experience in molecular pathology and standard molecular biology techniques is preferred, but not required.
- Must be self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.
- Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications, and interpersonal relationships.
