LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the MSP Emergency Dispatcher Trainee is to facilitate officer safety by monitoring police radio transmissions and utilizing all communications equipment towards that end at the entry level performance.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Duties include but are\r\nnot limited to:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMonitor\r\nand communicate with MSP and other public safety personnel via two-way\r\nmulti-channel radios and maintain required documentation of same;\r\n�\r\nUtilize\r\nMETERS/NCIC/NLETS to obtain, update, disseminate and accurately transmit\r\ninformation within the Department and to other law enforcement and criminal\r\njustice agencies;\r\n�\r\nUtilize\r\ntelephones in a professional manner to provide necessary guidance and\r\ninformation to Departmental personnel and the general public;\r\n�\r\nFile\r\nand maintain METERS/NLETS messages, and various required logs associated with\r\nthe communications center operations;\r\n�\r\nInteract\r\nwith Department personnel, allied agencies and the general public;\r\n�\r\nPerforms\r\nother related duties as assigned.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience:��None. \r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference\r\nwill be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).� Include clear and specific information on\r\nyour application regarding your qualification(s).�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOne year\r\nof dispatching experience in a 911 (police/emergency) services environment utilizing\r\na CAD (computer aided dispatch) system. \r\n�\r\nOne year\r\nof experience in a multi-faceted work environment using data entry keyboard\r\nfunctions and a multi-line telephone system. \r\n�\r\nA\r\ncombination of one year of emergency dispatch training, education and/or experience.\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with\r\nSection 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for position in\r\nthis classification will be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete\r\ncriminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before\r\npermanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for\r\nrejection of the candidate.\r\n�\r\nEmployees in this\r\nclassification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code\r\nof Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n�\r\nEmployees in this\r\nclassification will be required to provide the employing barrack with a\r\ntelephone number where they can be reached.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates for this classification may be given a medical\r\nexamination to determine their ability to perform the duties of the job\r\nclassification.\r\n

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet\r\nthe minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.\r\nTherefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information\r\non your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List\r\ncategorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain\r\neligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.\r\nThe list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will\r\nbe valid for one year.\r\n

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will\r\nconsist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the\r\nrequirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications\r\nsupplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all\r\nexperience and education that is related to this position.\r\n
